Hi everyone,

This is my first thread on this forum. I've always been able to find the answer to my question reading through the posts, but not this time.
I got a folder full of VOB, BUP and IFO files. I used DVD Shrink to get the ISO file. When in DVD Shrink, I can actually view the movie in the display window just fine.
I burnt the ISO with DVD Decrypter and tried playing it in the DVD player. Result:
"DVD cannot be played"
"Playback prohibit by area limitations" (DVD player is SONY SLV-D350P)
So I'm guessing this has something to do with region code. I edited the IFO using DVD Decrypter to make the movie zone free, then re-srunk it and burnt again: same result.
Does anyone know what to do from there?

Thank a lot in advance...

I usually have Shrink set to detect region protection. If the movie has region protection, Shrink will open a window and allow me to make the movie "region free".

Edit> Preferences> File I/O>

Make sure the "Check RPC2 drive region code when opening a DVD" box is checked.

Run your movie through Shrink again and if it has the protection, just choose the "region free" option.

Decrypter will make the movie region free as well. Is this what you are doing?>>>

Tools> Settings> General>

Set the RCE Protection Region to your region.

fasfrank,
All the settings you mentioned were set like that. I just doubled checked to make sure.
I do not get the prompt in DVD Shrink telling me it is region protected...
Any other suggestion?

Would you be trying to play a PAL video on a NTSC DVD player?
If so you would need to convert it NTSC standards.
If thats the problem try some of these threads:

Hey binkie... right on!! Thanks
I checked with AVICodec to see if the movie was PAL or NTSC and found out it was in fact PAL. After looking around, I found this thread

I downlaoded VobBlanker here: http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/VobBlanker-Download-16015.html and tada.... Voila!! :-)
The result is a tiny bit stacado, but totally watchable.

Thanks again

Having the same problems with a DVD given to me and the Sony DVD player said it is in the wrong area.

Tried the DVD Decryptor and the DVD Shink and burned 2 DVD and both play on my PC but neither will play on the DVD player, got AVIcodec but it does say PAL or NTSC but says:
Video : 169 KB, 8000 Kbps, 25.0 fps, 720*576 (4:3), MPG2 = MPEG 2 (SVCD/DVD), Supported
would it say PAL in the above if PAL?? I also have the Shrink as 'tell me if wrong' area but did not.

Can anyone help??

You have a PAL video due the fps - 25 is PAL and NTSC is 29.97
So you will need to convert it to play on your standalone. Shrink and Decrypter will make the movie region free - they aren't players just rippers so you would not receive this type of error with them.
Try the thread in Lauren03 post for help converting.

FasFrank:
I have my Shrink set to detect region protection but didnt open up any window on this DVD.
I double checked by Decrypter on the:
Tools> Settings> General> and the RCE Protection Region set to "1" isnt that the United States??

Thanks

Hello Lauren_03

I have the same problem in that they tell me I have a PAL DVD and you were abot to use VOBBlanker to convert to so a DVD player could handle it??

since VobBlanker is used for editing the titles, etc, is there any special setting I need to convert it from the PAL format??

Jagman - all you have to do in VobBlanker is:

1. Open your VIDEO_TS.IFO file in Input folder
2. Under Title Set, you'll see all your VOB files appear, it'll say PAL under Video Format. Click right on each of them and select Video Attrib.
3. When the little window pops up, change the radio button from PAL to NTSC and click OK. I have no idea what any of the other option do in that window so that's all I do there
4. Enter and Output folder and click PROCESS!!

The end result played great on my PC, but is a bit stacato, as I mentioned earlier, but watchable.

Hope that helps

THANKS Lauren_03

You have been a big help.

THANKS

This program is suppose to help you edit out some of the warning you dont want, have you had any sucess with doing so??

Anyone else know how to 'edit' the DVD and not just use the VOBBlanker for converting from PAL to NTSC?
