Process keeps failing with Nero

Hello all,
normally I post in the xbox section, but now this has started to happen with normal dvd backups. I've tried a few times to back up my copy of LORT: Third age, keep getting a burn process failed error with that. I figured it was just an issue with backing the game up, so I didn't worry about it. Today I tried backing up a DVD, and I got the same message, Burn Process Failed at 8x. I'm using DVDShrink to back up the image and Nero to burn it to my DVD. Here's the log:

Have you tried a slower write speed, or different brand of media? THe error messages you are getting in this log file is indicating the recorder is having trouble with the media.
Do you have the latest firmware for your recorder?

Craig, I've been wondering, if my Nero log shows up with all 0's in the disc ID section, that doesn't necessarily mean the media is faulty right?? Because I get this all the time but have never had a failed burn yet.

This is just useful information that the Media MFG's place on the disc, that helps them to track where the disc was made. Some Media MFGs may not put any data there, or your Recorder could have troulbe reading the information. But it will not affect the actual write operation any.
Our software will clearly indicate when there is an error or trouble reading media. :-)

- this means the edge of the disc is 4482MB and this particular burn is trying to write 4465MB to the edge of the disc. Change DVD Shrink's target size to 4300MB like this -
- this makes sure DVD Shrink limits all movies to 4300MB, therefore not writing to the very edge of a disc. I've always done this and still do it on top quality media as you're hardly sacrificing any space -

ps you could post your own pictures - i do this the same way, but i copy/pasted this from one of the moderators' posts -
Step 1: push ctrl + PrintScreen (above the insert button)
Step 2: Open paint .. click start -> programs -> accessories -> paint
Step 3: push ctrl + v
Step 4: crop your image. I crop what I want to show -> cut it -> open new -> paste it. Crop only what you want to keep
Step 5: save as jpeg

Hi ccampbell,
Since you are here, I have a little off topic question.
I currently have 512Mb of ram.
In the Nero logs, it says I am currently using 81% of memory.
I have lot's of little programs running in the background.
Will adding an other 512Mb or even a 1 Gb or ram HELP when you burn ?
I noticed memory goes down when you burn, it reads ahead and stores it in memory ?
Is this read buffer limited, so adding memory will not help ?
Or the read ahead is unlimited so adding more ram will definitly help.
I burn all my DVD at 2x, adding more ram will help me burn faster ? (On Taiyo Yuden or real good quality media).
It would be nice to get this answer from Nero directly ! :)

@cougar_ii, until Craig answers, my 5pence -
as i stated above, and on all Nero posts where i see lack of memory, virtual memory is still virtual memory. If you run low on RAM during a burn or any other operation, swapping will occur, ie hard disc churn. It's just the same on the Unix servers at work - run out of RAM and the hard disc(s) churn starts, and performance nosedives badly..
I was running with 512MB under XP and it's (XP) a bit of a memory hog, especially under burning (the read ahead buffers would empty sometimes if i went near the computer or background apps got excited). I found it just wasn't worth waiting around for the machine to respond to most things with 512MB; popped in another 512 and wow what a difference.
Another way of looking at it is, for example, if a newbie has to close down taskbar apps, virus checker, firewall software, etc, never mind background services, just to do burns, you just know they won't remember to get them running again afterwards; i know i kept forgetting, so i thought why am i struggling by on 512mb..

Creaky is right.
As far as Nero itself is concerned, 512MB of RAMM is normally more than enough. But very few people will dedicate all their system resources to our Nero software. Most will have other programs running in the background.
You really need to be aware of what your system is doing, and what its needs are. Some can get by with 512MB of RAMM, others need to beef up the RAMM.
On Average, our software will use 65% to 80% of your Memory during a write process, and if it ever goes over 80%, you may need to increase your RAMM, or see what other programs are on your system that are taking up the RAMM.
