Ok, I'm new here, but have pretty much figured out what I needed to do.
I have an xvid avi that I need to convert to DVD format. I do this with
WINAVI Video Converter. It only has two size ratios, and that is 4:3 and 16:9.
The video in which I am converting has a size of 640x288 (2.22:1) [=20:9].

Whenever I convert it to 4:3 or 16:9, the size now becomes 720x480 (1.50:1) [=3:2]

When I put the dvd on the analog tv, the image becomes very distorted and squished in.

When I put the dvd in a widescreen tv, the image is perfect
because the tv spreads out the image

The movie on the analog tv looks like this:

I want it to look like this:

Could this just be because of the dvd player settings and/or tv settings?

Thanks in advanced

I do,

another thing I noticed is when I play the video on powerDVD, i have to select "keep aspect ratio" for it to look the way I want it to. When this feature is not selected it is stretched abnormally.

Any suggestions?

hi

i would try divxtodvd first for speed, but avi2dvd and film machine would be my route! all 3 FREE!

also TMPGEnc PLUS can convert it to mpeg2 correctly then load the mpeg2 to your favourite encoder to get vob/ifo/bup!

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

It may be set to full screen as the default aspect ratio and any video file will be shown in this way if you don't choose to keep the original.

I have that program, but I usually like to test the file it produces about 10 seconds into its conversion from AVI to mpg (dvd), so as soon as it reaches 2% or so I click abort so I can open the file up on powerdvd to make sure of it's size, but I think i'm missing a codec or some shit...any help on that one?
