Hi, only recently started backing up some of my DVDs, and whilst most have turned out fine, have had the same reoccuring problem with a few of them.

Basically i tend to decrypt them using the latest version of DVD decrypter, then only reauthor the film using shrink. Whilst everything seems fine and there are no issues during copying, playback is a different matter.

Whilst they tend to work for the first two thirds of the film, the final begins by slightly skipping before degrading to completely unwatchable. This only happens on certain DVD players and never on my PS2, what could be going wrong?

Burn speed. Crappy blank media. What size are you burning your DVD's to? You shouldn't burn over 4360, but to make certain, I leave mine at 4300.

in addition to crozzman's reply, download Nero info-tool from here - http://www.snapfiles.com/get/neroinfo.html

Run it, note down the following, and paste here. Here's what mine shows -

click on the drive tab, note down the firmware version

Plus download dvdinfo (free) and run a media info check and report back so we can see if your media is any good

This is another wierd query i have, because most of the time Nero only gives me the option to burn at 1x speed, one thought i had is could it be the screen saver coming on and interupting the burn?

What are your computer specs, you should be able to burn faster than 1x. What kind of media are you using, and yes the screen saver coming on can disrupt your burn, you should never multi-task while burning.

Its a maxed out system, but it only gives me the option to burn at 1x most of the time.

I'm currently using DVD-R, which i've been told are the best to use.

Probably is best if your system is maxed, DVD-R is a better format in compatibility to older standalone players, technologically DVD+R are better. Make sure that your burner fimrware is up to date this can make a difference in burning, recognition of newer media.
