I recently installed a MPREX DVD dual layer burner into my sisters computer and I cant get NERO to see the drive. I've updated the firmware and still nothing I tried a few other things friends suggested but still nothing. Does anyone have an idea what can be done for NERO to see the burner?

Also, I have a Sony DVDirect(VRD-VC10)connected to my PC. What media is most reliable and long lasting for backing-up movies or which is media is a better fit for my SONY? I've read that Ritek (Ridata DVD+R) are the best for that purpose.

Ritek Ridata branded are good budget media, i have had quite a bit of success with them, but, i think if you want to buy dvd+r locally and want to be assured of GOOD quality, stick with the 8x dvd+r media by Fuji (make sure you find the MADE IN JAPAN right above the barcode on the spindles whether 25/50/100 pack spindles..they are TY media~ this is true for Sony branded 8x dvd+r as well, must find MADE IN JAPAN for this to hold true).

secondly, you could always pick up some Verbatim 8x dvd+r, made in taiwan, these are the MCC003 coding that i have grown to love and work well with ALL my burners~ :)

regarding your MPREX burner, i have no direct experience with that company and without the Nero log (which is your main issue at this point) i am sorry i can not be of any further help~ perhaps check the internals of the setup...make sure your IDE cable is securely attached, and the settings of it as MASTER using the jumpers are correct~ does XP locate the burner on your system? or is it just a problem with Nero being able to locate the burner? please elaborate~

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

Muchas Gracias Kivory...for the info on the DVD+R's. Is there any particular site that you purchase you DVD+Rs from....that have good deals or do you just buy them locally? I just got a spindle of the Ridata 16X DVD+Rs that I got from Newegg.com and I tried one last night and it seems that I got some kind of issue with it. I will have more time to check on that this weekend.

As for the EMPREX 16X burner(typo in the earlier post)I installed on my sisters computer XP sees it just fine. She can burn MP3 cd with no problem its just the DVDs it can burn. Ive checked all the cables and even put it by itself (secondary IDE master) and I still get the same result. Any suggestions?
