Hello, I have recorded the Movie Spanglish from my TIVO DVR to a double layer DVD+ disc and would like to compress it to fit on a single layer DVD- disk. Is this possible or do both discs have to be a DVD+ ? I have tried to decrypt it (DVD Decrypter) and shrink it with DVD Shrink but I seem to be lost in space somewhere and getting frustrated for sure and would appreciate any help or info on how this can be done. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum. I am not really sure what file format Tivo records in but if it is the standard format for DVD's ( .VOB,ifo,bup) then if it is encrypted then DVDDecrypter should decrypt it if it is the newest version of DVDDecrypter. Can you view it on your computer? If it is another format tell us what format the burned DVD is in and we will try and help you convert it if possible. Below is a guide to use for DVDDecrypter:
Set Up Guide for DVD Decrypter

1. Insert Movie

2. When Windows asks if you want to play movie hit cancel

3. Open DVDDecrypter

4. At top is MODE- make sure FILE has a check mark by it

5. At the bottom is a DVD > HD- Click this and the program will decrypt the movie

Mike, I believe that TIVO uses the standard protocol for DVD's and I have used DVD Decrypter and put the iles on to the H.D. But there are so may files I am not sure of which ones to use or throw out. So I can decrypt the recorded disc from the TIVO and put them on the HD but I don't know how or which files to use or how to compress them to fit on a single layer disc. I also have DVD Shrink but have not mastered that program either. The TIVO recording is on a Dual layer DVD R+ and I am trying to record it to a Single layer DVD - disk and not sure if this can be done, also I am using a new external Plextor that will read/write on most anything made but I am not sure of the DVD ROM that came with out Dell (Samsung) if it is capable of reading a Dual layer or not but I should be able to put files on HD and then use the Plextor to burn with Nero. If I am wrong please advise me in my direction. I am computer literate but new to all of this stuff. Thanks for the help Mike, I will get this project done if I have to retire on it !!

We will take your questions 1 at a time:
1. Shrink - If you use the guide in the link above then you should be able to compress the DVD to 1 disk but I suggest that you do Movie only as compressing too much can cause pixelization of the final product>
2. DVD Rom - Should be able to read the DVD-9 disk w/ no problem. I use my DVD-Rom to rip the disk to HD and then use Shrink to compress and Nero to burn the disk in the burner

You basically have the idea on what to do and if you copy bbmayo's guide you should have no problem. If you need the directions on a sheet of paper PM me and I'll send it to you. Let me know how you are doing.
