I am using Shrink to rip movies, and Decrypter to burn the image.
My burner is a NEC DVD+- RW ND 6500-A. That came standard in my Inspiron 6000. Using PM 1.6, 1ghz of ram. The advertised burn speed for this burner is 8x, but it only burns at average 4.4, max 6.2. The media I am using is Verbatim +R 8x discs, with media code MCC-003. To my understanding, this is a good media type. I have even tried some TDK 8x with same problem. When i start to burn, it slowly increases in speed up to 2.5, where it stays for a few minutes, then it will inrease a bit more to around 4x. It keeps doing this to a max of 6.2. I havnt had any coasters either.
I called Dell to inquire, and they where no hope. They just had me edit a regisrty key and delete files called 'upper limits' and 'lower limits'.
I searched here first, and saw that i should try to update firmware. So I let Decrypter search for updates and it took me to www.rpc1.org. There I entered my model number and found firmware version 203d so I updated (from 202c) and that did not improve anything. any thoughts?
Sorry for the long post, but trying to be thourough. Also, here is the Decrypter log from the last burn, might help. Thanks

Apparently your burner and media only work together at a max speed of 6x. Even though your burner says it can burn at 8x and so does your media, firmware may have stopped this particular media from burning faster than 6x. I have the same types of issues with my burner, but it's really not that big a deal. Honestly, DVD burns are best done at 4x or less anyway.
