I just ran DVDINFO on one of the discs that has been giving me problems. I'm not sure what I'm looking for but in the CRC read Error Test I had 30 read errors but all but 5 blocks were green (those 5 were red). In the PIE/PIF TEST all the spikes were low and fairly uniform. The Disc Info is

@JJenn74 - have a look thru the 1st link in my sig, i've been experimenting with PIF scans a bit lately..

I personally wouldn't tolerate a single CRC error, whether it's a data disc, movie disc, CD data disc, audio cd etc etc. Oh or on a hard disc especially :)

Your name sounds familiar, i guess i've replied to one of your posts recently...

....yup, thought so - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/187701

I guess we should start at the bottom. Apologies if i've already asked these questions on another of your posts, but as this post is uncluttered so far it would be worth covering the basics

download Nero info-tool from here - http://www.snapfiles.com/get/neroinfo.html

Run it, note down the following, and paste here. Here's what mine shows -

click on the drive tab, note down the firmware version

click on configuration tab, note down the DMA fields, ie on or off

it may be worth clicking on the aspi tab, and note down anything that might be missing

As to ASPI, i'm still not 100% whether it's needed in XP, no matter how many times i read up on it, i'm still none the wiser.

I've always installed it and it doesn't make things worse, plus i never read about installing it making problems so that's good enough for me.
