I use Alcohol 120% to back up my games.

My DVD Burner is a "Sony DVD RW DW-U18A"

My current media is Taiyo Yuden 4x (reports as TYG0)

I burn at lowest speed possible (will only go 2X)

I used some memorex 4x discs and actually got some burns to work, but can no longer find the same media. All others that I've tried just don't work... sometimes they load up, but they are very slow. With the Taiyo Yuden, I had Lord of The Rings Third Age load up really quick to the intro movies and thought that it was going good, then when starting the game it would just sit on the load screen far longer than it should. I got MX vs. ATV to work with the Taiyo Yudens but the load time seemed to be much too long.

I'm trying to figure out if this is my burner or maybe my PS2... I don't think the PS2 because my old burns that used to work still work... but then again I used the same burner. I've had so many people tell me all the media I tried (especialy the Yudens) should work... except for the Memorex and I got them to work, so I dunno :p

I would appreciate any ideas... thank you.

Hey there. Try using another media, if that doesnt work maybe try backing up with a diffrent program such as Nero or DVD Decrypter. cya

Well i would aviod Memorex. They just plain suck a$$.
I use Philips 8X DVD-R and they are really great
Also use TDK 4X DVD-R which also work real good
I had the same problem with MX VS ATV when i first burned it, in season mode it would take forever to load up a track. I would get in about 3 races an hour. Then i used ISO Buster & Nero to rebuild the ISO file and burned it again and now it works great.

Always check for new firmware updates for your burner which helps you get good back ups. especially if the model is over 1yr old and you have never done it. I have had mine for a year or so now and there have been 3 firmware updates on my Sony DRU-700A since i installed it. Slow load times are normally caused by the media, but you may want to try rebuilding the ISO and see if that helps. Surely can't hurt anything.

there are directions for rebuilding the ISO on my tutorial page, which will be soooooooo much easier if you have Nero.

Just a quick note, I have tried Maxell, same problem, also have tried Verbatim and some brand called Durabrand. All the same problem.

The Taiyo Yudens have done a little better, but still not enough to make backups viable.

What version ps2 are you using, and what type of media do you use? (+ or -r's)

V1-4 basically like -r's (however some v4's can handle +r's)
V5+ can do either

I will second the Philips dvdr's. I use their 4x max +r's for my slimline and have no problems.

I don't wanna to look it up but if I remember correctly it's a 3 or a 4 and either way, I only have been using DVD-Rs.

I tried finding a firmware update... can't :p it seems mine is a repackaged LiteOn SOHW-812S drive (even though it shows up as Sony)and the firmware for the LiteOn drive won't let me patch... I found one that someone had that would let me choose the drive, but it stopped burning entirely after that, so I went back to the old one.
