A few more details would be helpful. Is it the operating system (Windows) that can't see the disc? You should be able to go into Explorer and click on the drive in question and see the disc. If it is a DVD program that can't see the disc you may want to try and reinstall that program.

well i use window xp home edition and the problem being that my window xp dont seem to be able to read empty dvd-r disks(im not sure about dvd-r disks with actual content within it)
the problem occured to me earler when i tired to back up my ps2 games with DVD Decrypter which ive done plenty of times before with dvd+r disks, then i purchased a 25pack verbatim dvd-r(cause it was only 9 bucks ^^)but later found that my comp doesnt seem to be able to read the disk at all, as if it the tray was empty :/

you might benefit from a firmware upgrade on your burner. That's what your burner goes by to determine what types of media to read/burn and at what speeds. make sure you get the right one for your particular burner though.

It's just there to show the formats you can read / burn. Unless of course newer firmware fixes the problem, or should i say lack of being able to burn that format..

nice find!, page 8 seems to have the answers, apart from i'm still not sure if -R writing is possible after all that. I guess so, more reading would prove it. Those Dangerous Brothers sure know their stuff!!
I think the gist of it, is that cross-flashing to a 2510A or whatever only a problem if it's an external or usb drive. It's a tad late for my little brain to read any more of that !!

it's usually quite straightforward, the scary bit is if you lose power to the drive, or press reset etc during the flashing of firmware as it can bugger the drive up

naw, this is the way i see it so far -
1/ buy +R discs instead
2/ if your NEC drive is internal and you got a floppy drive - a bit more (light) reading and it could be a good move
3/ otherwise more heavy reading and head-scratching
:)
