hes not far from wrong. the PSP is not chipped but can be... kind of. there is a patch that you can download for the PSP, which is stored on the memory card. this allows the PSP to be able to play copied games, as the mini disc's that the PSP uses are now available to buy!

I have not heard of the umd disc being offered on the market yet. You said mini disc but i am not sure if you meant umd or minidisc. If you meant minidisc as you stated, the games are on umd disc which is not the same as a minidisc. By the way the hombrew for the psp v1.5 is out and has said to be working. I have downloaded it myself but i have not been able to use it yet b/c it requires two memory sticks. Got to get another stick ASAP>

"Software developers have figured out how to extract files from the Universal Media Discs used in Sony Corp.'s new PlayStation Portable handheld video game device, though there is no way to play the games extracted from those discs. Some details of the exploit were posted Wednesday night on the Web site PS2nfo.com, along with lists showing all the files pulled off the game discs for "Ridge Racers," "Wipeout Pure" and "Vampire Chronicles."

"Emulators for PSP

Last month, I wrote an article on homebrew development on the PSP. In the following weeks, I've started to see a lot of interesting items come down the pipe in terms of homebrew apps, games and emulators. Sadly, at this point in time, homebrew applications can only work on units with the V1.0 firmware. In fact, many new games that are available now require you to update the firmware via USB or WiFi to V1.5 or V1.51 due to the "security issues" which coincided with the UMD hack. I would like to share with you all some of the treasures that are available to you emulator enthusiasts. Hopefully, in time, we will see the ability to run these on any PSP, regardless of what firmware version is installed. Please note that these are early versions and are probably not going to be perfect at this time (frame rate, sound, screen size, etc). Also be aware that you are trying this at your own risk and the developers of these apps and this site take no responsibility for anything that happens to your PSP. With that said, here you go:

The Emulators:

Gameboy/Gameboy Colour
Rin
Rin Unnoficial

GameGear
SMS PSP

Genesis (Megadrive)
Megadrive for PSP
Generator/PSP

MAME (Arcade)
XMame PSP

Master System
SMS PSP

MSX
Hitbit

Neo Geo Pocket
NGPSP

Neo Geo CD
NEOGEO CD (This one looks incredible. There is a video link here.)

Nes
InfoNes
Famicontest
Nes for PSP
Nesterj PSP

PC Engine
PCEP

Snes
UO Snes9x PSP
Snes9x PSP
Snes9x Optimised

Wonderswan
Oswan PSP

6 months after the release of the PSP and here is what's available already. I can't wait to see what the next year will bring. Until that time, keep your GP32 and hold your breath.

You can find all these files at http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/ . If you're looking for roms, you'll have be resourceful and find those yourself.

Until next time,"

"Hot on the heels of the news that a "Hello World" program is reportedly working on a Japanese v1.0 PSP comes the release of game ISOs for the handheld system. Details of the exploit as well as lists of the files pulled off of discs such as "Ridge Racers" and "Wipeout Pure" were made available online today. Although Sony's plans not to release a UMD burner will initially stymie efforts to distribute games outside of official channels, the notes included with the game files hint at the motivations for the release.

Of course you can't play this game yet, and you won't be playing it anytime soon on a burnt umd disc (as sony has already said they wont be releasing burners for these). However maybe it will give you an idea of what PSP games are like, and just what is hidden on those little discs :) Hopefully it will give psp developers a chance to look into the files etc used on a UMD. Knowing what files are present and where in the filepath they can be found may help with loading of 'driver' files etc from disc.

It remains to be seen whether or not these game files will be usable to anyone other than "homebrew" developers, who will undoubtedly benefit from learning more about PSP development from the file structure. What will drive piracy will be the ability to launch games from flash memory; a discovery which will likely trigger a run on Memory Sticks. With each of the three ISOs weighing in at less than 500MB, a 2GB Duo Stick could theoretically hold four or more games and still have room to spare.

A growing scene of enthusiasts have been hammering away at the PSP's capabilities ever since its launch, and Sony was again not immediately available for comment. Previously, the electronics giant has taken a very dim view of piracy attempts, so expect no change in the party line this time around"

some simple things:
1. no blank UMD media available yet and if Sony has their way never will be
2. even if you could find the discs, what would you use to burn them, your UMD Burner which also is not out there.
3. who really cares, sure they system is ok, and you can carry it anywhere you go. But who wants to play games and watch movies on that tiny screen anyway? It's 4.3" for god sakes. My LCD screens i put in the car when i go somewhere i may need it for the PS2 are 7.2" (bigger than the whole PSP machine which is 6.7") and i have two of them and they cost me less than a PSP.

To use up 2 pages of space with this useless thread is just a waste of space. have you noticed that this section has a forum for everything else, even the PS3 and Xbox 360 which are not out yet. But nothing for the PSP? They need to make one so this stuff stops takling up valuable PS2 space.

Shew! That was definitely a LOL moment you had there but maybe you could clarify what exactly I did not spell correctly, because I know it wouldn?t be "@lxhotboy". I mean anyone that was so hip they could throw around "LOL" would know that what followed the @ was directed to the name that followed. And yes, if you're going to "insilt" someone, spell check it first. Now, get back to talking about that which you dont know anything about.

Man please!!! You screwed up just like a did. @lxhotboy is no where in my screename and there was no reason for you to put the @ into the message. You just screwed up and accidently pressed the key and did not notice it. If that is the case and you can say you did it on purpose that i will lie too just like you and say i did my error on purpose too. Just like i have enough sense to know you accidently pressed the wrong key, you should have enough sense to know i did the same. If I actually spelled the word wrong b/c i did not know how to spell insult, then that proves you are the only ignorant one here.

Case closed

I have read people confirming that the homebrew is up and working on the v1.5 PSP. I have all the software downloaded but dont have a 2cd memory stick or the memory stick reader needed to pull of the hombrew yet. How well do the emulators play on the psp for those of you who have successfully tried the hombrew on the v1.5 PSP?????

@lxhotboy - you're right. ok, no, you're wrong but what the hey. there was a reason for the @ sign: i was speaking directly to you; its what happens in a forum when you dont want to generalize too much and want to speak to a more specific audience. See if you want to reply to me and me alone in this post, you might type @hummus....whooops!!!! <---- wow, i totally screw up and hit the wrong key there, that doesn't even resemble my nickname.
