Sorry if I'm covering old ground here but I cannot find this question anywhere never mind the answer!

If I have to switch my mod chip off to get online how can I play a backup online?

Also, when I try to get the ID code from my original I get about 10 different variations each time I press the X button. I have burned only one patched game so far and took a chance with the ID code that came up most often. I cannot get online with this game.

I think you're telling me that I need to patch the game?

I've done that already. What I'm getting at is that to play a dvd r back up you need the mod chip on but, to get online with a backup you need the mod chip off therefore you won't be able to boot the game up in the first place? I am right?

Ok now lets say you are trying to find a working code right.You fire up the ID grabber,and eject and put in your original game with online support.It will show you different codes when you press the X button,but you have to determine which one works or not.If the code is in Red it is a false ID which won't work,if it is in Blue then this means you will get a good ID.Your chip could be detected,which means you might have to play online with originals only.If you disable your modchip you won't be able to play your backup right,so you might have to resort to something else for your backups.I am a Swap Magic user,so it doesn't effect me if I go online.There are a couple chips I think the DNS servers can pick up,not sure which chips though.

Thanks L-Burner. Before I read your reply I have managed to get Colin McRae online with the mod chip on although I have to switch off to play the origianal. I don't get blue and red codes. I found a thread with the last three numbers for an id and then found an id on the origianal that matched the last two pairs. I'll try it again with another game today.
