Well, here is something I believe is going to come up more often:

It started out when I was trying to copy the DVD, Hitch. I was reading all the threads about the latest versions of DVD Decrypter, AnyDVD, and DVDShrink, and managed to use decypter to get the copy protected files onto my hard drive. Only thing is, decrypter did not fully remove all the copy protection (if any), so no matter what I used next, I kept getting cylclic redundancy errors like several others had been reporting. Except with my situation, the files were on my hard drive, not the DVD. It seemed as if the problem file on the Hitch DVD was, "VTS_01_1.VOB."

Everytime I tried to use any copying program such as Nero or DVDShrink to read the files on my hard drive, there is something in that file such that when the file system starts reading the drive sectors, it goes into a cyclic redundancy error, and eventually gives the BSoD stop error, DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, and it was relating the error to my SCSIPORT.SYS system file. But if I just re-booted, no problems.

Well, I ended up finding a different way to make the back-up copy thanks to the another thread; i.e., I eliminated the unnecessary audio files using dvdshrink. So then I decided to delete the folder on my hard drive that contained the Hitch DVD files. But during the file deletion process, big trouble started,and I got another BSoD! Only now, I can't re-boot, because XP keeps giving me the same stop error during boot-up!. It makes perfect sense: the Sony copy protection on the DVD that causes the cyclic redundancy error wasn't going to allow my NTFS to delete the file, since it couldn't be read or tracked across the storage sectors on my drive. This spelled big trouble for my system. Luckily, the DVD files were not on my main OS drive volume, so all I had to do was disconnect the drive that contained the DVD files and I am back up and running. However, all my back-up files of important information are on the drive that contained the DVD file.

I am using SpinRite to recover the drive but, it is having a very hard time with it and is taking an incredibly long time (if I let it run 24/7, it appears it is going to take about 27 days to finish, and thats if I narrow the recover down to only the scrambled sectors only).

I only wonder if anyone else has struggled with this.

Is Hitch a dual layer DVD or is it a different format? Why are the files so large when ripped?

Hitch is a dual layer.

I used DVD Decrypter and then Shrink and had no problem at all. The special features are crappy so if I had to do it all over again I'd just reauthor it to get 100% picture quality.

@jmorgan03

Just use DVDShrink in re-author mode, and choose the main title and then encode and burn. Here is a guide

Okay, here's MY problem...I've tried ripping the movie Hitch with several different programs, and some do nothing, and some do somethings that i really don't want them to do. For instance, they just pulled all the info off the CD..wow that's hard i coulda did that with a control+a and drag. Some complained that there wasn't even a DVD drive, while some complained that there wasn't a DVD in the DVD Drive. Then one (AnyDVD) made my computer crash every time about 10 seconds after i logged in! The ripper i've come to know works is Smart DVD Ripper. What i did was pull the VOB files off of Hitch's DVD and then use the VOV to AVI option on my computer. The only flaws with this is that the first file that contains the first part of the movie (and therefore the protective software on it) is off and unsynchornized. The other files are absolutely P-E-R-F-E-C-T. So I tried to use the AnyDVD way and, like I said, crashed my CPU w/ the blue screen of death.

THEN i decided to see if it was just Hitch. I put in The Two Towers because it was the closest DVD and thew it in and ripped the first DVD and then came back post ripping process. Then i tried to open the file, and it wouldn't open. The size was there, everything seemed okay, but the file opened up Winamp and Winamp displayed the title of the file, but unfortunatly it just said it was 00:00 min. long and sat there. Same thing for the other Disc. So is the only way to get this to work is pulling off VOB files from the DVDs themeselves and converting them EVER so slowly? HELP!!!
