Never buy brand GQ (Great Quality). I bought 100 DVD-R disks (from Fry's) and all of them but two were defective. They burned OK but failed Verification stage. At first, it made me think that I had bad DVD burner but when I bought a brand new DVD burner, it had the same results. It dawned on me to try different brands of DVD-R disks and any different disks worked fine with any of my drives incluing the one that I thought was defective.
Conclusion: never buy anything made by GQ (Great Quality) brand.

hi fool_name
yeah, i mentioned about this brand a few months ago, something about "gay quality" or something along those lines. if i am not mistaken, Fry's is one of the few retailers that even carry this horribly cheap brand. the burns are very inconsistent and i think the catch is when people see dvd media at such a LOW LOW price, they think they have found the sale of a lifetime, drop down some money for it and now they are stuck w/ one of the worst of the worst~ :P
i am sorry you had to find out the hard way, i've tried them before as well and that's why i gave the GQ a nickname as stated above. crc errors were OFF the chart~ one of the worst i have seen, on par w/ CMC MAG~
try some better media, a penny saved is NOT a penny earned in this case...you will regret it in the long run. may i suggest some TY or Verbatims to try, these are actually "GREAT QUALITY"~ completely opposite of the GQ brand and how they perform~
Recommended Media:

Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

i too recall one or two threads re GQ media. It's like the thread about media called 'Great Azo' - the name alone makes me wary. 'Great Quality' - hmmm that would be enough for me to steer clear regardless of details !

In order to keep up with demand, and keep it cheap, quality always suffers. The only way you find out if your media is good is to have others positive feedback, so as long as forums like this exist the word will get out :~)

I wrote about these GQ's (Garbage Quality ) before on another thread a while ago.
STAY AWAY from these Disc's of any kind DVD or CD media.
They are always on sale for verty cheap prices.
I even had a salesman @ Fry's, around a year go tell me that there Garbage.

I would never buy a GQ DVD disc! Only TY!!! They are the best in blank DVD media.
Now GQ CDR's (made by LeadData) are a different story in my opinion. Not as good as TY or Ritek media but the last batch of 100 GQ CDR's I bought worked fine burned as audiodiscs at 16x. They are a heck of a lot better than CMC junk thats for sure! I burned a few at 32x & they played fine in all of my CD players.
Was recently given a 50 pack of Maxell color CDR's (made by Ritek) plus I just got a 100 pack of TY CDR's from Meritline so I really don't need to grab the $6 GQ 50 pack CDR's on sale at Frys right now.
