Quote:To copy PS2 games, do you need a dual layer DVD burner to copy? I am going to buy one and I dont want to get the wrong one. I appreciate it.
@stuynerd,
Yes - to name the 2 most famous are GT4 and GOW, you will need a DL burner in order to back up those 2 games and plus any games that are over 4.7GB. However, you can back them up into a DVD5 disc with the right procedures and tutorials, but this will take some times to do.
No - because nearly 95% of games are still pressed onto DVD5 disc. On the other hand, it will be easier and it won't hurt to have a DL burner on hand.

Why would you need a DL burner for GOW and GT4 i can see for movies
I don't have a DL burner and i ripped GOW from dvd9 and burned it on a dvd5
but i guess it wont hurt nevermind
I kind of have the same question, I just bought DVD-9 disks and I thought that would be the only way to copy GOW or GT4. Until I read some of these forums, anyways I don't want these expensive disks to go to waste. Now the question,
I want the full version of both games, but I don't know what procedure I need to do. Or if I need to use any other applications such as
Toxic, cdvdgen, etc...
I want a full working version, I do not know if i need to make an iso with DVD Decrypter and just burn it or do another step. If you could help me it would be great.
Only certain Modchips with the Toxic Bios can read dual layer backups.
I have a DL burner but I havent burned more than 5 disks since I purchased it.
why?
1)-I use swapmagic for my ps2 games,
Currently swap magic cannot load dl backups.(the next release should fix this however.)
For dvd9 games I re-build them to a dvd5 size format.

2)-For movies I use dvd shrink and compress them to a dvd5.
Why spend 8-10$ (us) on one blank media if i dont have to.
It is not a bad idea to have one that will burn dual layer. If you are getting a burner why not get one that can burn anything?
Like the Sony DRU-720A
I have not done any dual layers myself, but i like having that option open for when the prices go down on the media.
And yes there are only a few mod chips out that will play dual layer back ups, although if you have a chip that supports DVD9 (dual layer) then there is a Toxic DL Patcher to patch the game so your chip can play it.
