Hi group.. newbie here. I'm using VSO Divx to DVD and in some cases I can't get this to work. The error is "Floating Point Division by Zero". Can anyone tell me what that means and how I can fix it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Kevin

It means the program cannot read your source file properly.

Black holes are where God divided by zero...

alot of files that you are getting off the net of late have been corrupted purposely to stop piracy.

What was the source of your files?

You can download the divx version 5.2 from http://www.divx.com and Klite codec package from http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm to have a try!

Thanks to everyone for their response. Is there any free software that corrects this problem? I can play the movies on the computer, but I like making the movies into dvd's to watch on TV.

The movie are downloaded from the net.

Again, thanks in advance for any help you can give.

A large number of films cannot be converted. They play well on the computer, but i wanna play them on my DVD player (which supports DVIX and XVID). They won't play there, and when I try to convert them (using VirtualDub or TMPG), a get this error. Anyone knows a way to work around this?

The error is "divided by zero". I tried VirtualDub, TPMG, ASF-AVI-repair.

the latest one i tried is a 23 fps, 209 kps, 12bit sample size divx @720x290 resolution.

I just tried mpegencoder 1.4 to convert them to mpg. This seems to work ok.

rob768, If I understand what you are saying, your divx movies won`t play on your DVD/DIVX player [ DVD player (which supports DVIX and XVID). ] I believe it may be a hardware problem, the DVD/DIVX player. Unlike the DVD part of the machine , which will play back close to 100% of all DVD`s, the DIVX part may not support all DIVX or XVID codecs This is from a review of a DIVX/ DVD player :

"The DP-220 also supports DivX playback, though playback is a little spotty. While we found it capable of playing back DivX files on both CD-Rs and DVD+Rs, one file was extremely distorted to point where it was unwatchable, and another suffered from some audio dropouts"

You may have stumbled on the particular codecs that your machine does not handle very well. You could try and check out their website for a firmware update.

No you got me wrong. I know the player doesn't support all codecs, which is one of the reasons I normally use VirtualDub to convert them in to "standard" Xvid. The other reason is that I often want to add subtitles to the movie (I'm dutch, and when possible I play a subbed movie).
However, although this works fine for most movies, some movies produce the error.
