yes, as neph stated..need to know model and make of your burner, secondly, your reason COULD also be media related...memorex is considered some of THE WORST media here on AD as well as MANY other sites. CMC MAG is probably the manufacturer of your discs and i would suggest trying some BETTER media once we get the drive to recognize it~ :)

This is only one common problem of memorex and poor quality media. You may be able to get your drive to recognize the media by updating your f/w but if you are eventually able to burn to it, you may experience playback problems, if not right after the burn, down the road depending on who actually made that batch. Although some get by useing memorex most don't recommend it.

hang in there, we just need a little bit more info to help you get started, as i am part of the 99% that andmerr was referring to, i guess i am very biased towards my hatred of Memorex media. but on a brighter note, Memorex DOES make a decent product in it's Opticloth/Opticlean computer cleaning cloths~ but i figure it's because there is nothing TECHNICAL about putting something like this together~ :P
Quote: Micro fiber cloth safely cleans all optical media including CDs, DVDs and video games.
hahaha...it's supposed to CLEAN optical media, but that will do you ABSOLUTELY NO GOOD if the optical media of choice is Memorex, all the cleaning in the world will not bring them back to life~ :P sometimes their products do NOT work well together~ :)

The memorex dvdrw is a rebadged lite-on SOHW-1673S or SOHW-1693S (can't remember which one) and got top review in PC magazine. Too bad same can't be said for their media (usually rebadged cmc mag) hehe.

Are you sure that drive is a dvd burner? Looks more like a combo cdrw/dvd-rom drive. In other words it will read cd's and dvd's but only burn cd's. I'll look into it some more.

you're probably right. it is probably not a dvd burner drive. The computer people told me that it would burn DVDs. And the program that came with the computer says "Burn CDs and DVDs with Sonic DigitalMedia LE" but again, I dont know. Im so not a computer whiz. :(

Good work arniebear. Looks to be a combo drive and that would explain the problem.

You're very welcome kristelle, and thats very unfortunate, sorry. There is software that will allow you to backup a dvd on 2 or more cd's but you can buy a dvdrw drive for about the same as what the software will cost you. I would go with the second option since you already have Clonedvd2 and you can download dvd shrink for free. Check out newegg for the best prices. Here's the link. http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/Category.asp?Category=10
Edit: Oops reread some posts. If you've got a laptop then arniebears suggestion is the way to go. External drives cost a little more but I think you will find newegg has about the best prices on them too.
