Can you give me directions on either process of burning: either with the dl or the dvd5, I don't care! I just want to back up my disks and the time it takes doens't matter to me.

PS2 games are actually pressed DVD/CD discs, they are not burned. PS2 games use the Burst Cutting Area (BCA) of the disc to identify themselves to the PS2 unit. The BCA is not part of a disc that you can burn on, it is only replicated on pressed discs.

So, the only way to play backups is to get boot-discs or a mod-chip.

Assuming your ps2 is modded there are many programs that can do it.

I would use dvd decrypter myself.
Also its important to use high quality media (verbatim, fujifilm, tdk, maxell).
Stick with the above brands made in japan.

Only certain modchips with the new 'toxic bios' can read copied dl discs,

I know it works for dms4pro and matrix infity chips.

(There are less than 10 dvd9 games out anyway.)

For 95% of all ps2 games you want to use a quality -r or +r format.
dvd5 (4.7gb) media.

The dual layer disks are +R not RW.
I downloaded the Toxic patch from the internet should this make a difference for the file? (the toxic screen does load when I put a game in the mod ps two

It sounds like you have an older Toxic bios installed.
The older versions will NOT play dl backups.
You probably burning the backups right,
You just need to flash the new bios to your chip.

You cant 'add-it to your backup either it must be flashed..
