HELP!

I have recently used the 'limited' software called Microsoft Movie Maker - it suited my use. I have created a great movie but cannot get it off the computer HD on to a disc which will then play in a DVD player. It is driving me B-A-N-A-N-A-S!

Have bought DVD+RW didn't work
Have tried CD-RW didn't work

Am I saving in the wrong mode, am I using the wrong type of disk - PS. My dvd player attached to TV plays anything

Go to the directory on your hard drive where your movie is, and tell me if you see AVI files or VOB files? (I think you might not have the right file format. To get your movie to play in a stand alone player, you'll need to get the files into VOB format.)

What program are you using to burn your movie onto media? I would suggest (once you get your movie into VOB format) that you use Nero

Why are you trying to burn to a CD-RW? It makes more sense to burn to a DVD (+RW,+R, or -R), since you want to play it on your stand alone DVD Player... The larger question is what type of media your stand alone DVD player can play???? Check your owners manual for the answer. Then, you'll know which kind of media to burn onto. Of course, your DVD-burner will have to be able to burn onto that same kind of media too.

If you have a DVD (-R,-RW) writer, and your stand alone player only plays DVD (+R, +RW)... Well... then there's nothing you can do. (However, this is very unlikely the case).

Please specify:
1) What kind of files you current have in the directory on your HD where you've saved your movie
2) What program you are using to burn the files onto blank media
3) What kind of formats your burner supports: DVD+R? DVD-R? DVD+RW? DVD-RW?
4) What kind of formats your stand alone player supports (check owners manual): DVD+R? DVD-R? DVD+RW? DVD-RW?

... Otherwise, we won't be able to help you... as much as we'd like too! :-)

I've just had a play with windows movie maker and the files came out, WMV

The 'free VSO dvxtodvd will convert these into a DVD format.

see AD guides http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/vso_divxtodvd_guide.cfm

good luck

Hi ya, thanks for your suggestions :

1) As far as I can tell the file is a WMV format and not VOB - can't see how to convert
2) Am using Window Movie Maker - am trying to get Nero but haven't got it at the moment
3) Actual burner supports all formats - Windows Movie maker only recognises CD-RW
4) Stand alone player manual states that the player will play pretty much everything

Will also try 'Gringle's' suggestion of download to convert - thanks for help

You can get VSO's DivxToDVD here:
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_encoders/v...
You can get Nero here:
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_applications/n...
Once you have converted you WMV files to VOB files with DivxToDVD, then burn them onto a blank DVD with Nero (click on "Burn DVD-Video files").
