that scan's more like it, but i keep reading that PS2's can be picky (i have only watched a few dvd copies on mine, hardly use it for original games, and am unable to use copy games as mine isn't modded).
Methinks you need to convert to the Verbatim camp :)

Those scans look good for RITEKS....should get even better with TY's (or Verbatims). Maybe it's the -R Format??? Maybe the PS2 prefers +R's???

na, mine won't play +Rs at all, otherwise I'd be using them. Oh well, I'll get some different discs and take it from there.

Hi squizzle,
I thought you were booktyping dvd+r's to dvd-rom. Is the lite-on booktype utility not working for you?

Hey guys, I just wanna say, don't rely too much on the PI/PO tests. I have 2 burners, Pioneer DVR-109, and Lite-On SOHW-1633s. Well basically I use the Lite-On to read DVDs and the Pioneer to burn. I use TYG02s and Verbatims MCC002s. I got interested in what the PI scans would look like for my backup, so I scanned a backup of San Andreas on the 2 burners with DVD Info Pro. Well u'll be surprised, but according to the scan from the Pioneer, the backup is frisbee material. The Lite-On scan is elite tho :)
Not sure how to post pics, if u guys tell me i will

@Mort: Yeah, the booktyping is working out for me with movies, but PS2 games are still coming up as DVD+R. I just got some Verbatum DVD-R, tried a 1x burn of a PS2 game and still didn't work. Started thinkin my chip went out or something, popped in a game that I know works flawlessly, and it still works flawlessly.
I just realized a while ago that I started getting this problem since using my PC that I just built. Strange since I'm using the same burners and software, movies turn out great. I'm gonna try on another computer when I get a chance.
@skidme: hit print screen on your keyboard, paste it into paint, crop it down as needed and save it as JPEG or GIF. Then go to a pic hosting site (I use photobucket.com) and upload it. Then copy the link to it, and in your post type [img.]link to your pic here[/img.] but without the periods in the brackets.

Oh thx Mort81, I think i tried crossflashing it to 1653 before, but for some reason I wasnt too happy with the results. My burner isnt even really a Lite On(it used to be a DigitalMax). As for the Kprobe, I'll try it as soon as i finish typing and tell u the results. Is it supposed to work on only Lite Ons? Every time i try to run it on the Pioneer Kprobe shuts down.
@squizzle-thx dude you're awesome
Ok heres the pic for Lite-On scan-pretty good, I'd say
and now heres the Pioneer scan-remember that its the same disk as in the previous pic
What do u peeps think of this LOL

@skidme - it's correct not to rely on just the scans. i found the other day that a PIF scan looked great but a CRC scan showed up 130ish crc errors. can't remember if i posted that comment in this thread or in my own (first link in my sig)

Yea lol you can pretty much look at the two scans I posted above and see the difference. All I can say is that the backup plays flawlessly on my PS2(version 7 I think). For anyone who cares here is the Kprobe scan that I just finished

cool. the dvdinfo graphs take me a little longer to figure out than kprobe graphs.
kprobe is only for lite-on's. i think there's only really dvdinfo and Nero cd-dvd-speed for other drives. oh and of course plextor has it's own tools for it's drives..

OK, here's a scan of a PS2 game burned at 1x with my Pioneer 106 external. These are on Verbatum DataLifePlus DVD-R (MCC02):
I'm a bit unsure of what that spike is in the beginnig, I started the burn and left. This looks OK aside from that spike, but it still won't play in my PS2. I'm burning a game on another computer as we speak to see if that helps anything. This is starting to drive me crazy.

Squizzle, that spike in the begining isnt good, but it wouldnt have made the disc unplayable. What game is it that you're trying to burn? I myself have had problems in playing Verbatims on my PS2,(I have the Film Reel MCC002s) but I find TYG02's to be flawless(from the previous scans I displayed). Good luck w/ your trial and error...
P.S. Try burning at 4x. I did some extensive testing and found that the quality of a backup is best for me at 4x, and gets worse at 2 or 8x. Do a burn at 4x and see what happens. I now burn all my games at 4x and they give me the scans that I mentioned above.
Also can you give some more technical info? R u backing up using Decrypter, Nero etc... What r u using to try to boot the discs..chip or boot disc? Sorry this info may be somewhere in this thread I just havent found it.

lol, this is weird me being on this end of the problem.
Using Decrypter to rip and burn, games have been Burnout 3 (only worked the first time I tried it), Fight Night Round 2 (couldn't get a straight answer on whether it had to be rebuilt or not) and God of War (rebuilt according to guide in sticky thread). Have gotten about 50 successful burns at 1x with Ritek G04, now they're not working and I've tried Verbatim MCC02 code at 1x. I've burned at 2x with glitches, so I've never tried 4x but I'm pretty sure it won't turn out good. I'm gonna try to burn with Nero just for the hell of it. I've used my LiteOn LDW811S and Pioneer DVR106 external. PC is custom built, 2.2GHz CPU 1GB RAM and 200GB hard drive. Tried different PC, didn't work out either. I don't get this at all, maybe I should rip with my burner instead of reader. I'll also give 4x a shot, I don't seem to be making progress as it is right now so what can it hurt.

not another modded one, but I think I'm working closer to the cause and I think it's burning with Decrypter. I found this out by encoding a movie with Shrink and having it burn with Decrypter. Came out all stuttery, burned the same movie with Nero at same burn speed and it came out fine. So I tried to burn the game at 1x with Nero and it booted up every time I tried, then it froze at the loading screen.
I'm going to try with my other burner using Nero at 1x. The burner I used has hacked firmware and I forced it to be able to burn G04s at 1x, never really did have great results at 1x with that burner. Will let you know how it comes out though.
Thanks for all the help everyone.

well, tried my other burner using Nero at 4x. Still no luck. This is getting pretty frustrating. All my old burns that worked all along still work, so it's not the PS2 or the mod chip. I'm about out of ideas here.

Are you still trying to burn the same images? They may be corrupt. I think you should try to copy one of your backups that works onto your HDD. Then burn it and see if it works. I know it's waste of discs but, hey, if you succeed, no more worries.
I'm pretty sure your problem is a bad batch of disks. Did the problems start when you went through your last batch of G04's and opened up a new spindle, cuz I read earlier that you burned 50 of em with no probs? Is there anyway for you to get some TYs(as some of you may have noticed I am now a big fan of them)? I'm sure Riteks are suitable for movies but maybe not for games.

well, I thought it was a bad batch of discs at first, now I'm not so sure. I've tried some Verbatums that didn't work either. Don't think it's in the burner either, tried another one with no luck. Could be a bad disc image, but that would mean that Decrypter isn't ripping right because this same thing has happened on a few different games. And Decrypter rips fine in File mode for movies, I'm just assuming it rips fine in ISO mode as well.
I have a feeling the problem lies in a software conflict of some kind maybe, or my new computer just doesn't like to burn games. Although I tried on another PC with no luck, but I transferred the ripped image over my network to that other PC, so if it was a bad rip that could be it, but again why are they all ripping bad?
I read in a thread where someone asked if Azureus had any conflicts with other software. I uninstalled that and tried the burn again, will try the game right now.....Nope, still no luck. I just don't get it...

Try to rip the game from the disc onto the other computer and then burn. I think that should clear things up. I just hope you still have the original....
Oh yeah and also, movies don't need to be very exact to be played back. It's possible to skip a frame, but the whole movie will still be enjoyable. In a video game, though, a corrupt file may mean that the disc will freeze at the intro or something like that. It may just be that Decrypter is messing you up.
