hello, I am having problems with copied ps2 games. For a while they simply woulden't boot with my swapmagic 3. after reading a forum I tried some better Blank Dvds (Verbatim dvd+r). The new copy would boot but would start skiping mid-way through the game. On a seemingly related note, Dvd-decrypter, failed during the verification process due to an "Input/Output" Error with my dvd burner. Someone on a forum with a another similer problem was told to search for another firmware. I found a new firmware but I don't know how to install it. I think that my older firmware might explain some other problems with my burner. Like the fact that even when I command dvd-decrypter to burn at 1x and it burns at 2.4x anyway. Is the firmware related, and if so how do I install it.

i tell DVD Decrypter too burn at 1x and it burns at 2.4x, i believe thats too do with the minimum speed you can burn at

your discs are good, very good. what version ps2 have you got some dvd +r's dont read well in some of them?

obviously that firmware is quite important, but i dont know anything about that

Usually when you download firmware you just have to double click on the file, it will either start and install program, or will ask you if you want to extract it, which will give you the install program
(you may not get an extract option if you do not have an extraction program like WinZIP or my favorite Winrar)

Firmware can help with some problems but will have nothing to do with your burning speed as far as i know. But it could solve the skipping problem or audio/video problems.
If you set it at 1X and it burns at a different speed just let it. It try's to burn at the best speed for the media you use. Like mine burns 4X discs like you mentioned at around 2.4X
When i use and 8X disc it burns at around 4X so that is normal.

And if you have a V5 or above PS2 both +R and -R should work.
I prefer -R myself but that is just because when i first started years ago, that is what a friend told me to buy, they worked well so i just stuck with them. But i do all my movies on +R and they work fine in both my V7 and V12

write speeds are limited by firmware not software

Firmware has A LOT to do with burn speeds.

Start DVD Decrypter right click your rw drive.
First check for firmware updates.
After that is complete.
Put a quality blank media into your drive.
Goto mode iso write (using dvd decrypter).
IN THE BOX ON THE RIGHT YOU WILL SEE "SUPPORTED WRITE SPEEDS".
These are the speeds that you can Correctly burn (USING THE MEDIA THAT IS INSERTED.)
It will vary from one media maufacturer to another.
(Go with the SLOWEST SUPPORTED SPEED)

Ok, I got the firmware to work (it turns out I downloaded a bad firmware the first time). It still burns at 2.4x but Thats the lowest supported speed. Now the copies I make are skip-free and the data verification stage of Dvd-Decrypter passes. Now I have a different problem: The Backups will boot and run fine, but only once. The second time I try to boot the backup it won't boot. I have a V5 PS2 but perhaps it has problems with Dvd+R's anyway?

@lawnninja,

Have you at least tried to back up a little faster like 4X or 6X? I know for sure that my nephew has an older PS2(version 5) and I've backed up at 4X and 6X for him and his can play without a glitch. On the other hand, mine is a version 9, so I backed up all my PS2 games at 8X and play it flawlessly. Perhaps, you might want to change the book type settings on DVD Decrypter, this will make life easier for your PS2.

To change book type on DVD Decrypter:

1) open up DVD Decrypter,
2) go to TOOLS, DRIVE, Chang Book Type, then select your dvd burner if available there
3) on "change for", arrow it down to "Drive( for DVD+R/+R DL media)"
4) on "new setting", arrow down to "DVD-ROM", then CHANGE and OK
5) that's it... you've just changed the book type from DVD+R to DVD-ROM, this will make your PS2 to read/load/play easily.

listen, just go purchase Alcohol 120% program. i bought that program and i have never had a problem playing a backup since then. i have copied all the PS2,GC, and PS1 games that are available to me with ease. i also have the swap discs and i repeat i have never had a problem playing my backups with the alcohol program. i know there are several different programs running about that maybe better than Alcohol but i am satisfied with this one. just have to find a program that will allow me to shrink the information i copy from a game so that i can put more than one game on any given DVD. if anyone else reads my message and knows how to place more than one game on a DVD please let me know. contact me at "dekalbirving@aol.com"

i agree, that you should try burning your backups at a higher speed. i burn all my games with a much a higher speed than 2.4x. i also have no problems playing my games over and over again. one other thing i do not use DVD+R's to copy my games on either. i use DVD-R's instead they have proven to me to be much better than DVD+R's. that is my opinion of course so you make the decision.
