I just had a thought(I'll just sit down,bit dizzy).
Would it be possible to generate a list ON THIS FORUM which users could add to for what burning software they have used to successfully backup and play on a specific standalone.

ie. nero 5.5.9.17
LG3200E
CYBERHOME 402

Because there are so many players available now.
It may come in useful for newbies and compatibilty issues, or does it infringe on any copyrights/patents.

Or something similar, do you think it would attract a large response?

Arghhh....

You know what thoughts do don't you..... ?

No seriously, unfortunately, it's not as simple as you would like.

Let me explain.

It's not just a case of what pieces of software you use, and what media you use. It's a case of how you use the soaftware as well.

A small example.

For some time I have used Nero (5.5.9.0) for burning my backups, with great success, burning using Datawrite media. They play fine on my PC and Pioneer 444. Then one day i tired on on my PS2. Failure !! The PS2 would not even recognise the disc.

After some head scratching, I changed my methodology slighty. Now, after creating the VOB set, I creat an Image (Imgtool) and use Ulead DVD Movie Factory to burn. Result, plays in all devices. So, the media is OK, so is my burner (Pioneer A104) now I don't use Nero to burn.

I find that a bit difficult to get my head around.

Thanks seamonkey and homerJ.

Yes HomerJ I totally agree that it is the method/software that is used.

I too have experienced compatibility issues lately with nero 5.5.9.17.

I used UDF/ISO which was ok for 3 out of 4 standalones inc ps2.

I too scratched my head, threw the toys out of the pram and spat my dummy and tried using the just UDF option AND it worked on all 4 inc ps2.

I have looked around at countless guides but I am inclined to say that they r only guides and not fool proof for EVERYONE.So if a method works for you does not mean it would work for EVERYONE.

I remember when I first started and had countless issues with guides saying it doesn't work this that and the other and came to the conclusion to use the guides to create MY OWN method.

WE would all like fool proof guides but due to the software/pc spec/methods etc it is not so.

Anyway thanks for the input.
