I've had my dvd burning for almost 2 months now, been burning dvds fine all this time. Now I go to burn a dvd today and a message pops up saying "DVD Shrink encountered a problem and cannot continue. Failed to read file "E:/" The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error." Does that mean my burner isn't working anymore or is it something else. Please help me so that my husband will stop saying that I did something to the burner.

Maxell media disc. It is the same disc I have been using for the last 2 months. I go to start the burn process and that message comes up saying all that stuff. So is there something wrong with my burner.

What burning programs are you using with shrink?
Also it may be a simple conflict with another program, I had one recently with shrink, and DVDSanta, I deleted Santa, re-installed shrink and things went back to normal.
I'd try a re-install first, check out all your setting see guides
http://www.dvdshrink.info/index.php

Also if that fails let us know more about your burner details, make, etc.

Ok I am using DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter. The only time the message is sent is when I am trying to burn "Are We There Yet". Any other movie and I don't have a problem at all.

Thank you for the advice. But now when it comes to running a program I am stupid at it. What are the steps at running these programs. I downloaded AnyDVD but I don't know how to run it. What are the steps to burning with AnyDVD.

AnyDVD just works in the background to unprotect encrypted DVD's. Just open it up and you will have a red fox sitting in the tray. Insert your DVD and AnyDVD will unprotect your DVD just reduce it back to the tray and proceed with your ripping and burning. Good luck, and hope it works for you. Come back if you have more questions :~)

Just another thought if that doesn't work. You can use Decrypter to burn to the hard drive, then use Shrink to burn the iamge. Decypter can "decrypt" some DVD's that Shrink can't. Also, if you try this, make sure that you disable DVD43 first. Good luck, keep us posted.

Nice one arniebear I posted earlier on another thread, that some newbie folk are beginning the to confuse. The whole complex proccess into calling it burning.
mattershttp://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/200870
In addition to your excellent advice, may I add she should also make sure the disc she is trying to 'Rip' be cleaned. that could explain the I/O error

I applaud your excellent advice, a lot of problems could be solved by simple cleaning, or returning the disk :~)

@ vwsport80 if you think the link I posted was an attack on you?
Their can only be two conclussions.
1. Because it was posted approx 7hrs before your input; I have the gift of prediction!
2 You have the propensity for paranoia!
the choice is yours:)

@ Gringle
I was not exactly refering to the link. You made refrence directly after my input that Quote: some newbie folk are beginning the to confuse. The whole complex proccess into calling it burning.
If there was no connection intended, then great. No harm, no fowl. I would hate to give bad advise and I thought you were calling me on it :)

actuall I didn't even see your input, I was replying to arniebear, the quote refered to the link.
You'll find as you spend longer here, we often cross-post each, it's usually taken in good humour.
I've nothing against newbies whatsoever, it's fun trying to sort out their problems.
Some newbies are very experienced, others give the wrong information,
and I thought arniebear did a brilliant job, teasing the right info into the thread.
And solving the problem.
I would suggest 'tho you read future threads more carefully, before launching emotional replys.
