Backing up decrypted files to discs

Okay. After Dawn rocks, first and foremost. I have begun to burn dvd's and back up dvd's, succesfully, thanks to the forums and guides. Now my hard drive is beginning to get smaller, and I would like to burn the seperate files to multiple discs, therefore backing up everything I have decrypted, in case I need to burn with extras, or without extras, depending on the quality I want to have on different burns. Nero won't do it if I select data disc even. It shows on the bar that there is enough room on the disc until I click burn. Drop and drag in windows explorer fails every time as well. Will I eventually have to delete everything to clear up space? Or will I be doomed to perform the decryptions everytime I get the urge to burn?

Have you ripped these files from DVD's and now you want to burn them? What programs are you using? Did you compress your files to fit on to DVD disks?

DVD Decrypter( love that one) did all the ripping, and now, if I had a dvd r with enough space, I could burn an exact copy. DVD Shrink ( I love that software too) allows me to burn a poor quality copy if I keep all the directors comments, games, behind the scenes, etc. Better quality if I remove subtitles, or even menus or chapters, etc. All this is possible from the files I now have in special folders populating my crowding hard drive. I want to take these files to disc, not neccesarily making viewable movies, more like data backup. Multiple discs are fine, as long as I retain the ability to later put them back on my hard drive, and burn movies again. Sounds like a good idea in my head, is this possible? Sometimes the voices are only good for sing-a-longs.

check out bbmayo's and scubapete's guides (look in my sig), they should tell you how to do this. Also, if you use Deep Analysis and quality enhancements in DVD Shrink the quality shouldn't be too bad, but the larger the TV, the larger the flaws in the backup.

thanks anyways, I just wanted the option of burning whatever quality I wanted later, with all the files I currently have on my hard drive. While those tutorials show how to burn different ways to preserve quality, etc. , they don't allow to transfer those files needed to begin the whole process on backup discs. Thanks again.

You may just need to do what I did- get an external HD. I didn't wanna spring for it at first, but it is SO convenient!!! WalMart usually has 1 or 2 on their clearance racks (missing documentation, installation cd's, etc... which you won't need anyway if you have XP or 2000)...

That's the ideal thing to do! Seems like I saw a flier in the paper for an external 200 gig storage device. Now if only I can come up with a compelling argument that would convince my wife we had to have it!
