i personally have some of these and they IN MY OWN OPINION are NOT very good at all~ some people will tell you they work fine on their setups, but, they stink on mine~
optodisc is not highly regarded on MANY media forums, definitely NOT classified as Grade A media-1st tier quality, they have been rated maybe 2nd or 3rd tier from what i've seen~
i have problems with these particular ones and i would NOT recommend them, but, as i say, everyone's setup is different and if they work for you, so be it...i would suggest you try Taiyo Yudens or Verbatims if you want MY suggestion as to what is good media~
IF you like the Riteks, i would look for perhaps some of the newer Ritek Ridata branded media...those have worked VERY well for me too in the past~ :) good luck

Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

Thank you Kivory, I will be patient and wait for new stock to arrive at computer shop. Curious to know what sort of problems you experienced with them.

my experience with them was not of a very pleasant one...the MOST common problem i had was pixellation and skipping upon playback in my standalone dvd player...i personally feel that the dye was not consistent in the batch that i had purchased, so, perhaps i am biased if i did in fact get up a bad batch, but, yes...major sporadic skipping on my backups was prevalent throughout the entire film~ :) not a GOOD thing when you spend the time and MONEY for what you think will be a 1:1 copy~
Taiyo Yudens on the other hand, what i use NOW, this and many other problems have NEVER occurred...flawless playback each and every time~ check my sig. for media ID codes on these~ very good media~ good luck~

Long ago In a far far away galaxy...I bought some samsung DVD-R 4x, and their media ID stated as OPTODISC, they worked perfectly in my Super Sony DRU-710A, I used them for PS2 backups, DVD movies, and no skiping or whatsoever, also PS2 backups it did not put a problem, as the kivory stated media experience may differ some times (although I know my TY and Verbs will never betray me...lol) So maybe they will work for you as they worked for me, but maybe they dont, but If you have the opurtinity to return them, and dont buy them again, your best bet is to stay with 1st class media.

Well I think majority rules..... Unfortunatley the store I use to purchase my discs (which happens to be the best in my area ) are limited with their variety, but I struck gold just being able to purchase ritek and have never had a ounce of trouble with them. As for the discs you mention (ty) apart from this forum have never heard of them I wonder if they are available in australia? Also are they +r and printable. More to the point I might have to learn to bulk buy while the riteks are in stock....

Fujifilm Rebrands Taiyo Yudens, they have DVD+R made in japan which is made by taiyo yuden, although I dunno if they still have the DVD-R made in japan which they are also Taiyo Yudens, "ejem" Kivory "ejem", the made in taiwan are made by prodisc, you can go for sure which verbs even if they are made in africa or asia or whereever they will always be good , so its your choice. Another point beware of fakes with taiyo yudens they are very common, Good luck ;)

before i knew any better, i got some tdk dvd +r on sale at fry's, thought they copied fine, but when i tried to play the movies on a standalone dvd player, the dvd player wouldn't even read the dvd.
other backups played choppy and froze up, but played fine if we watched them on the laptop.
no more tdk for me, i'm sticking with verbs
usually burn with laptop: dell, XP SP1, P4 2.66ghz, 384mb RAM, HL-DT-ST DVD +RW GCA-4040N burner

Sliding just a bit off topic here but was noticing your sig. 4gb ram and 3,000 burns? That's a helluva lot of both! My wife thinks I spend too much time on the computer (read this forum a lot), but she would kill me if I spent the time to burn 3,000 movies.:) BTW, how long did it take?

yup, i concur, however the only mountain i will see round here is that mountain where noah's ark got stuck (soz i live afloat and i'm convinced global warming is gonna hit our Marina first as i used to have 10foot flames (like a blowtorch) out top of chimney when i used to burn junk i shouldn't have (like plastic, oops)))
