I just made my first DVD copy back up using DVD shrink and Nero. I used the re-author and just tried to copy the main movie, the main menu screen, and screen that shows different scenes that you can jump to. When the movie is put in it starts playing right away, at the end of the movie it plays the scene selection screen but plays through it and shows each screen for a few seconds and goes onto the next. Then it plays the main menu screen but no function is working. On 90% of the DVDs I am going to back up I just want those three things. I was wondering how to make those all functional? The labels for the different catagories in DVD shrink were not labeled clearly as to see what was exactly what. I did find a label saying "Root Menu" so I assumed that was the one I wanted for the main menu. When I previewed that it was a picture of some flowers with no writting or anything? Any tips would be great, thanks.

Something else I just thought of...I managed to get this movie (Meet The Parents) to have 100% compression. I was wondering how much quality loss say 90%, 80%, or 70% has when compared to the original? I am just curious because I always want to keep as high quality as possible. Thanks

You can re-auther in Shrink but the menus will not keep the functionality.
In shrink do a full back up then in the special features/extra (can't remember exact wording) section make all the titles a still image. This will also keep your compression down.
The more compression needed the worse the quality.

You can also use dvdremake to edit the video folder however you want (has to be ripped to hdd first). I use dvdremake to remove trailers, previews, warning screens, and any adverts AnyDVD missed leaving a functional menu, the movie, deleted/extended scenes, bloopers, and the making of if I choose. Then you can encode and burn with the proggy of your choice. I use RB/CCE and Nero.

I always use dvd-remake for DVD menu edit.
There is one thing I don't get working.
When the dvd starts, I just want to see the root menu fitst.
Wat happens, is that the movie begins to play.
The root-menu is present en works good when I select "menu" in on the player commands/buttons!
Has anyone an idee/suggestion to solve this. Please tell me?

Do you have anydvd running while ripping? The reason I ask is because I was having the same thing happen and realized that under navigation in anydvd I had checked "jump directly to main movie". I changed this to "jump diretly to title menu" and now the root menu is what plays first.

Hmmm.... I don't use that program but, I have a good idee. The first rip to harddisk is playing the root menu first. But when I have made an edit, things are changed...Thanks for youre reply, there is one thing I'm gone find out!
