For some reason whenever I shrink a dvd the end result does not match the automatic adjustments. Even though the target dvd size is set to 4.7gb, dvd shrink doesnt always shrink it to that specific size. When i use a custom setting, i get the same result. If anyone can help me with this problem i would greatly appreciate it.

I really don't know the specifics on how it reaches it's goal, but I do know that Shrink can only compress a movie to a certain percentage. Some really long movies just won't fit without taking out a few things. Movies that are loaded with audio tracks(since audio is not compressed) can cause issues as well.
So, a few options are:
Run it through shrink twice, which usually results in poor quality
Take out the special features you don't want using the still image feature
Use reathor mode and copy just the main movie

spordo,
I did I,Robot using DVDDecrypter and Shrink and had no problems as I did Movie only. Set the size to custom and put 4300 as the target size. Now do re-author and do only the main movie and the 5.1 audio

Thanks Car.Mike. I tried doing what you said and it worked perfectly. I think it must have been the decrypter i was using. Thanks again, and thanks to those who tried to help

Hey Gang - Iam getting a window that target size is exceeeded when I am using Dvd shrink to backup T-2 Terminator 2 extreme edition the window pops up when I click on the backup icon in dvd shrink! the greenline at the top of DVD shrink says 4,464MB. out of 4,746Mb and compression is set to automatic . I tried deleting one of the ac3-2channel audio streams there are two of them but the target size exceeded window still pops up! has anyone done this dvd yet ? and if so what tricks of the trade did you use ? should I delete all the ac-3 -2 channel audio and just use the Ac-3 5.1 channel audio and the movie ? any help will be greatly appreciated - Thanx peace& happy burning

I haven't done this exact movie but stripping all un-needed audio and subtitles gives the video more room and better quality. I only leave 1 audio stream, AC3 5.1. But in your case strpping the audio is needed just to make it fit. Did you try to re-author movie only?

Ppower- just a friendly thank you & a update on The T-2 Judgement Day issue ! I stripped the two channel audio track both sets and reduced my target size - image size and DVD Shrink seemed to work fine with it in that setting ! I burned a DVD+RW copy to check for function and audio playback seems to work okay on computer & if works on dvd players will do permanent dvd-r of it ! Once again thanx to you Ppower and all my Afterdawn.com friends new and old ! SO peace & happy burning Y'all

Were you able to get this issue resolved with not being able to get the dvd compressed enough to fit on a DVD-5 media? I too am having this problem but it's with a PAL/8.2 Gb Region 2 DVD. I have not tried to run Shrink twice. I am afraid of the low quality result.

tmog- yes I was able to resolve the issue of the target size /comprerssed movie still being too big to fit on 1 disk ! I removed the 2 channel audio tracks on the dvd there were two of them and also adjusted the compression setting to slightly smaller than full size I forget the exact megabytage but long story short that worked foe me Hope this helps out somewhat - peace & happy burning

I used DVD Shrink with I, Robot and hand no problems. I even backed up the entire disk. Have you tried re-installing shrink?

What brand dvds are you using? What is your burn speed? Are you multitasking while burning?

Memorex 8X DVD+R. No not multitasking. I do nothing on the computer and have most processes shutdown while working with Shrink. Burn speed is max.

Memorex are crap. That's probably why you burned a coaster. If buying on line buy Tiayo Yudens or from a store try Verbatim or Fuji made in Japan. Most people burn movies at 4x to reduce the chance of errors. With those Memorex I won't try it past 2.4x, even then it's touch and go.

The DVD I want to copy has the main movie listed as 7076MB. DVD Shrink will not shrink it down to 4300 in reauthor mode. I stripped out everything except the main movie and the 2 channel audio.
Is there any other program that will Shrink movies down to about 4300?
Thanks,
Steve
