I recently bought a DVD movie, but i can't play it on my computer.

It plays on DVD player though, on the beginning it always displays key DVD screen for a couple of minutes, and it can't be skipped, then it plays the movie.

When i insert the disc to my DVD-RW drive (lite-on) in my computer, the green led is just blinking all the time, and the drive makes ticking sound, seems like DVD disc was broken, but its not. And i cannot access it.

Is that key DVD some kind of new protection against playing the movie on the computers? thats sux 'cause i usually watch movies on my computer, where i have actually better sound system then with TV.

What movie is it?
Is it an original copy?
Was it purchased in an Asian country?

This information would help - there are no current protections that cannot be circumvented.

this is 'along for the ride' and i bought on amazon.com (usa), so its original.

The DVD is region_1, but i didn't have any problems with playing region_1 movies before, although i live in region_2 :)

Not familiar with the movie - as far as I can see it is a 2000/2001 release so there should be no problems/protection issues.

Patrick Swayze (Dirty Dancing) and Melanie Griffith (Working Girl) are Ben and Lulu.

Would suspect that you have a bad/dud copy.

run through a recovery tool if the problem persists like iso buster and you should get an answer which would indicate whether the disc is faulty or not

I brought the disc to my friend who has Pioneer DVD drive (some old model, minus only) and it managed to read the disc!
So that was the issue with my Lite-On 832S, strange because i have a good experience with Lite-On drives.

Thanks for your answers.

there are known issues with various burner combinations.I'd really have to check with some one on the specifics but i was pretty sure liteon have issues

Do you have dvd identifier: put the disc in the drive run the program and it will tell you the manufacturer of the disc.

software description:

'dvd identifier' retrieves and interprets the pre-recorded information that is present on dvd media (dvd+r, dvd+r dl, dvd+rw, dvd+rw dl, dvd-r, dvd-r dl, dvd-rw and dvd-ram) and on blu-ray media (bd-r and bd-re). This information contains a variety of parameters such as disc manufacturing information and supported write speeds. Even though this information is usually printed on the packaging, the brand name may differ from the actual manufacturer or sometimes there might not even be any packaging information at all.

To summarize : 'dvd identifier' offers a reliable method of accurately identifying the disc's real manufacturer.

DVD Identifier didn't read that disc either. There is definatelly something with that Lite-on drive, although i didn't experience such problem before.
When i have an chance i'll also check that disc with other brands, like LG for e.g.
