oh my.. please help..i'm really at wits end
help me! big problem..
oh my... ever since i installed Regshext.inf(see below) from http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=39405&highlight... , which is supposed to simplify .ax file registration and unregistration simply by right clicking.
anyone can tell me how to undo those commands??
now, whenever i right click a .ax and click register, a popup error box appears saying "DLLREGISTERSERVER in c:/.../matros~1.AX failed. REturn code was: 0x80040154."
i'm running windows 98se and the biggest problem is whatever files that windows media player play says "Class Not Registered" and i can't play anything at all...:(
Some related resources:
>my regsvr32.lgc (log file i think) :
http://s22.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2BVSSQQ0NBSWI2BE9RDSRBMYU7 / http://www.megaupload.com/?d=11ZE6LS0 >http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;249873
Other problems:
1)G-Spot blackbox crash warning during startup as it scans for availble codecs:
""Warning: DirectShow crashed while GSpot was attempting to obtain information about a codec.
This is usually due to damaged, misconfigured, conflicting, or poorly written codec drivers. It is possible, perhaps even likely, that other media players will crash when they attempt to play this file as well, as most of them will also use DirectShow. GSpot was able to intercept the crash, and has attempted to identify the codec or filter involved; uninstalling or reinstalling this codec or filter may solve the problem.
The codec was tentatively identified as:
Unknown audio codec #10 ""
2) I also tried to rectify the problem by running filterreset.bat which i found in yahoo. i think its function is to reset those filters..
Error now is
>link to filterreset.bat: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=14YUX5AS / http://s22.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=312RQCO9ONLZ0168UICRDY5A7L (100% virus free, don't worry)
3) I happened to look into directx.log in c:/windows and saw same problem(same error code i mean):

Gees you really buggered things up didn't you? lol
This might solve part of your problem, or at the very least not do any more damage.
Okies well I've had a similar problem at least playing media files and with the GSpot black screen of doom - after 2 days of kicking and swearing it finally came up as a DirectShow issue.
First up, just try Start/Run and type 'regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\quartz.dll' (without the quotes) and see if that comes up with a successful message.
See if that helps with at least your media playing problems :-)

Lol just isn't your week by the looks of it - at least half the problems you're facing are related to Direct X so might try re-installing that?
I'm no expert but maybe after all this it's probably time for a reinstall of windows... Poo looks like it's hit the fan and isn't happy, might be time to bite the bullet. Keep trying though! You're persistant enough to go this far, lol - hope you find your answer :-)

You may not need to do a clean install, just a repair.
Load up the XP CD, and start a new install.
Do NOT select "repair using the repair console", but keep going through the install.
On the next screen right AFTER you are prompted to hit F8 to agree to the license, you will (should) be prompted to "Hit "R" to repair a current install.
Hit "R".
All your settings and programs will remain intact, but this will replace all missing/corrupted windows files, with the originals from disk.
You WILL have to re-download all your updates and service packs from MS.

Question: what version of DirectX are you running? If you aren't sure, goto start, run, and just type dxdiag and it should come up.
If it isn't version 9.0c, might be an idea to update to that

Crap...win98 huh...when you gonna get into the 21st century? <grin>
You can do a repair install of that too.
Open Explorer, and rename win.com to win.bak in the c:\windows folder.
DO NOT RESTART.
Insert the win98CD, and start a new install.
When prompted for the installation folder, change WINDOWS.000 to WINDOWS (just remove the dot and the three zero's).
This does a LOT more than SFC ever will.
You will have to re-download the updates, but all programs and settings are retained.

After a successful reinstall, you can delete win.bak
Startup menu links, program settings, and history will be intact, as well as associations.
You will only have to get the updates again.
