First time making Ps2 Game backup to use with Swap Magic 3.6

This is my first game backup so naturally I have a few questions. I know there are many threads on this and i found a few and I got the basics but I just wanted to make everything clear. So here goes... To decrypt the games I plan to use DVD Decryptor. To play the games I am going to use Swap Magic 3.6.
My Five Questions..
1. To play backups online do they have to be patched?
2. If the game is not an online game can I just decrypt it and write it to disk?
3. Is this a good guide to follow to make a backup to play online? http://www.ps2nfo.com/on-line.html
4. Even if this is a good guide is there an easier way besides it?
5. The game I want to try to backup first is FIFA 2005 does anyone know of any issues with it?

OK What I didnt hear you say is that you have a flip top or a slide card!Those two things are very important if you dont have them you cant play backups.
1.Yea to play backups online you must patch them.
2.If the game is not an online game just copy the iso you get with DVD Decrypter.
3.Yea thats a good guide(thats the guide that I used to play backups online)
4.Some one in here had posted the DNAS codes for some PS2 games(and FIFA 2005 is in there).If I find that guide Ill give you a Direct Link to it.
5.Just about a day ago I backed up my FIFA 2005 to a MAXELL DVD-R and it worked perfectly online.(i have Swap Magic 3.3)

You have to use good media though to get the game to work perfectly.
here are some good choices:
1.VERVATIM DVD-R
2.MAXELL DVD-R
3.FUJIFILM DVD-R
4."NEVER USE MEMOREX" is crappy media!

Thanks for answering my questions. I'm trying this first on the Ps2 redesigned so I can use the magic switch. It sounds easier than having to take apart the Ps2, and I read that using the slide card will sooner or later break your console. I have the normal ps2 too that I will probably buy the flip top for later, but for now I just wanted to get this to work the cheapest and seemingly easiest way possible. If you have other thoughts on the magic switch let me know because the order won't be shipping for awhile. And if you find that other guide that will be great too. Thanks again for Helping.

After Looking through that guide more and downloading the programs you need I see that the Disc ID Utility doesn't work with the slim line ps2s. Is there any way around this or will I have to change my other Ps2 into a flip top now? I guess if I have to I will I just really wanted to see if this was worth while before I dished out $30 for a flip top case.
