Hi,

I have been using dvd2avi for quite a while to convert vob files to d2v projects. I then use tmpgenc to convert to mpeg files. (I record quite a lot of music videos to my replay tv, burn them to a rewritable DVD using a standalone DVD recorder and then use dvd2avi and tmpgenc to convert to mpeg music videos on my hard drive)

The last DVD I made seems to have some kind of bug. It shows fine in powerdvd (although when I open the info and configuration screens it seems to indicate normal dvd record mode of 720 x 480 on the ones that look fine in bsplayer or dvd2avi and only 350 x 480 for the ones that are split screen in bsplayer or dvd2avi. In bsplayer it shows as a vertical split screen replicating the image on the right side so its half as wide. In dvd2avi there is a split screen but it shows two completely different videos on each side. When I try to tmpgenc the d2v and mpa audio files i get an mpg where the left half of screen is a degraded version of the video and the right half is a green background.

I suspect some type of interlacing problem. Unfortunately I am not sure how to fix. I also could not find documentation on what the status buttons in the info display box for dvd2avi mean. There is a box marked info which sometimes has a "T" in it and sometimes has a "V.E.!" in it.

I started using a new dvd burner recently and its possible that some of the videos are recorded in high quality and others in mid quality but I would suppose there must be some setting in Dvd2avi that I am not using correctly. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Dave R

Cheers,

Kai

hi

what are you trying to get from and to in your projects? files wise? eg: dvd original to a backup copy of it?

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

Hi,

I am converting VOB files from a rewritable DVD into d2v files and mpa files. These are uncopyprotected recordings off vh1. I record them first with my replay tv (ie TiVo clone) then burn to DVD. With my old DVD recorder, my VOB files could be broken down into d2v and wav files which didn't need to be synched up but this new recorder seems to store audio in mpa format which then requires resynching but that is another story hehe. I then use TMPGEnc to make mpg files for my hard drive.

I think I have a partial workaround. I am able to use vobsplitter to lop off the higher encoded quality VOB (720x480). The remaining video appears ok in 352x480 mode w/o split vertical screen. This is still problematic because vobsplit doesn't quite let me pick exact starting frames. I have to use sliders and miss the first few seconds of one video. Also I miss another video which is split between two different VOB files. Although vobsplitter has a join option it seems to be unimplemented. I am downloading uvjoiner to see if that will join my two vobs to see if i can salvage that music video

Cheers,

Kai

hi

why do you need to make d2v files and mpa files?

do you need to edit these files or something?

as you can make a copy of the dvd to dvd with dvddecrypter and then if needed dvd shrink, dvd shrink can output to dvd decrypter after for buring...

if you only have the vob files and dont have any ifo or bup files, you can use IFOEDIT to make ifo/bup for the vobs and then burn to dvdr

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

Hi

I need to have the videos in mpg format. I am basically only using DVDs to transfer them from my living room to my computer (VH1 Classic TV channel --->Replay TV ----> DVD Burner ----> Computer). I have over 2000 videos on a 300 gig external Hard drive. I also have another DVD player that plays DivX, MPG etc... I can fit about 80 music videos onto a dvd in mpeg format editted just the way I wish and in playlists I select. I wouldn't have the same options if I kept them in vob/dvd format and they would occupy more room on my hard drive then the mpeg-1 or mpeg-2 format that most are currently in.

Thanks

Cheers,

Kai
