Hello,

I finally got the DVD (which wasn?t running on my pc?s DVDROM) copied to the hard drive than got it burnt on a new Vertex DVD R media.
1. Only 2 GB of the 4.2 got copied & burned, most likely the rest of the files were corrupted?
2. copied only the Video_TS folder.
3. When I played it was fine, but while looking at the properties of the VOB files they were mpeg-2 type. What does that mean? That they were VCD files copied to a DVD?
4. The Video & Audio quality is not the same as I normally see on other DVD movies. Why?
5. Is there any software with which I could edit/improve the video & audio quality? The picture isn?t as crisp & sharp. Feels like am watching a VCD movie.
6. The movie has 2 files, VOB_1& 2, but they won?t Auto play. I have to manually select the files while using power DVD & than play them. Any specific reason?

Any comments?

Take care.

what program are you using to burn? Check to see if the files not burnt are corrupt by using powerdvd to see if they play from the ripped files on your hd. No autoplay as you somewhat stated is due to not having copied all the files onto the dvd. Of course I'm starting with the basics and can sort as we go along or another member of the forum will come and post something small but important I missed.

to burn or not to burn that is the question

Meaning it wouldn't play on your DVD ROM? Were you playing an original DVD or a backup?

Never heard of it. Stick to the quality media. Verbatim and TY's are probably the best.

What programs are you using to rip? Compress? and burn?

Hello,

It was an already burnt movie, having a ULEADDMF folder, which I think means that Ulead movie factory software was used to burn it.
The 3 folders Audio, Video_TS, ULEADMF hanged the system or didn?t let it run on my DVDROM BUT would have no issue running on stand alone DVD player.
I got this info doing a search using google.

http://www.videohelp.com/forum/archive/t181794.html

Than a colleague just copied the Video_TS folder to the hard drive & burnt it on to a DVD using Nero.

Vertex wasn?t my choice that was what she had, using a Sony DVD burner.

http://www.elx.com.au/item/elsDVD-R-V10

Take care.

PS: I did not do all this since at the moment I don't have a burner connceted. Just a Asus 16x DVDROM & Asus CDRW.

most of the time playback has to do with the quality of the media. Could be your DVD ROM just didn't like it.

How big is the dvd before you copied it to your HD? If it is less than 4.36GB you shouldn't have lost any quality. It is as simple as rip and burn.

Now if it's larger than that, you would have to compress it to fit a blank dvd-r. So yea you would lose some quality.

What program in Nero did you use?

All other movies play very smootly on the Asus DVDROM. I just finished watching the "SAW". It does have autoplay features.

The size initally was 4.3 GB.

Are all other movies the originals? Or backups? and if they are backups are they on the same type and brand as the problem disc?

Try using DVD Decrypter to rip in File mode. then burn the video_ts folder w/ Nero.

Copy the entire dvd using nero. I too have never heard of vertex and did a search with no results. Try using verbatims and taiyo yuden blank dvds as flip stated in his post. Also you need all contents from the original dvd not just the Video_TS folder. Hope to get you burning good backups soon.

All movies are ORGINAL.

I know Verbtams are one of the best.

See for yourself about Vertex. Australian brand. http://www.elx.com.au/item/elsDVD-R-V10

Thanks.

Wasn't that the problem disc? How is that an original?

That doesn't say much. You got Nero? Run Nero's InfoTool. What is the media ID?

Now is this the problem backup dvd? (the one that can't be read)?

And wasn't the initial size 4.3 GB?

Hmm ... maybe you should invest in a good DVD ROM. they only run about $25 U.S.

I agree totally with your views regarding Media. Verbatim costs me $ 1.20 per DVD.

Maybe you should look into ordering from an onlinr retailer such as newegg, amazon or supermediastore. Shipping & handling may apply but you will save around 20 dollars as 50pk of the verbs you mentioned in Australia would be around 60.

*looks @ flip dang it is anybody faster with helping folks than you tonite ~:)
