Ok i think i may have worked out how to get Disc ID utility to work on PS2 Slim without having to
"yank" out the Disc while it's spinning to replace it for an original game. Now i havn't been able to
test this method fully, since i dont have a USB HDD, so i leave it to the good folks here to test
this out for me. The instructions will be very general therefore you will need some common knowledge
on how to use USB Extreme and Swap Magic and so on. This tutorial is not for beginners as yet, but if
it proves to work, then i guess i will re-write it step by step so even the newbies can fallow.
What we will need is:
- PS2 Slim console
- Swap Magic 3.6
- USB Storage Key (any mp3 player or usb pen drive compatible with your ps2slim will do, make sure it
works 100% first)
- USB HDD (check that it works 100% with ps2)
- USB Extreme Windows software
- USB Advance
- Disc ID Utility (DVD version)
- Original DVD
Ok firstly we need to get USB Advance on your USB Storage Key. So plug your Storage Key (Pen drive)
into your pc and create a folder on it called "SWAPMAGIC". Next copy the USBAdvance.ELF file to that
folder and rename the USBAdvance.ELF file to "SWAPMAGIC.ELF". Ok this tool is ready
Now connect your USB HDD to your PC. Use the USB Extreme Windows software to format the HDD. Now put
in the Disc ID Utility DVD-disc into your pc's dvd-rom and use USB Extreme Windows software to
install it on the USB HDD. Ok this tool is ready too.
Now, connect the USB Storage key (the one with SWAPMAGIC.ELF on it) to your PS2slim (your ps2slim should be turned off). Next put in the Swap Magic 3.6 DVD disc and power on your console. Swap Magic should load and very shortly afterwards USB Advance should load.
Take out the Swap magic 3.6 DVD disc from your PS2slim, since it should not be spinning anymore and put in the original DVD game who's id you wish to obtain. Now unplug your USB Storage key and plug in your USB HDD (with Disc ID utilility on it). USB Advance should list the software and enable you to run Disc ID utilility. And since your original game is in your PS2, you have no need for pulling out dvd's while they are spinning.
Can someone please test this method and give feedback, I dont have a usb hdd to check myself, but i migt buy one in a few days to continue some "development" work :D
