Hi there, I'm using MS Windows XP media edition with capture card...I want to rip or "record" small portions of a dvd I have for a presentation. I have tried hooking my DVD player up to my laptop via the video capture card, but the picture only lasts a split second then I get a black screen = audio is present. I can't seem to use any of the provided software on the laptop to record the video...can anyone help, I'm assuming I need different software. Thanks.

http://www.imtoo.com/downloads/dvd-ripper.exe
choose "Encode Segment" in File menu, then enter the beginning time and the duration of the song.

This should also work with DVD Shrink in the re-author mode
