Are you multi-tasking during the process? More processes running?
Some movies are larger and take longer to encode depending on how much compression is involved. It also depends on your system specs. Burning depends on the speed which the media supports and can be adjusted - up or down.

For Shrink if using Nero after you click on backup - click on the burn tab - your burn settings will be there. You max depends on the your burner write speed and the supported write speed of the media.
In Decrypter once you bring the file in - in the bottom right corner will be your settings - here you can change the burn speed. Again the speeds depends on your burner and media.
I don't know your drive's speeds but faster burning can cause problems.
My rule of thumb for burning is 1/2 the max of the drive with media supported at that speed. Example 16x writer - 8x burn speed with 8x media.

Dual layer dvds take twice as long as single layer dvd movies. Could this be whats causing your time difference?? I rip and burn a single layer movie in about 20 minutes start to finish. A dual layer movie takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on how long the movie actually is.

don't buy any more cheapy discs, buy quality media , it's just not worth the wasted money & effort that cheapy discs cause.
