Topic Says it All. My burner is a Mad Dog external 16x dual layer DVD burner. I use Nero Smartstart, and the media I use is Dynex 8x DVD+Rs. They're readable in my dvd players, but not in any of my dvd drives on any of my computers.

Also, another question, whats the best type of media? TDK, Verbatim?
Thanks

ok, thanks, thats what I thought it was. I just borrowed a TDK DVDR from a friend and I was gonna test that out with my burner to see if my computer could read it. Thanks for the response. I guess I'll just use the rest for DVD movies, and in the future not buy Dynex.

Like I said, I borrowed a few TDK Data DVDs with various .avis on there, and like my dynex, my dvdrw drive couldn't read it. I was getting the same problem as my dynex data dvdrs. I could open the drive, see the files, but can't access them. As soon as i click on a file, it stops responding. I then took the same TDK dvds and tried them on my dvd drive, not a dvd writable drive, but just a dvd drive on my laptop, and I had the same problem, it couldn't read it. The only common denominator that I could think of is that there is some setting on both computers that is keeping this from working. Anyone have any other ideas?

in MY opinion, tdk aren't much better than the Dynex you are using~

i would suggest to try one of the brands rotary has suggested, with my #1-#3 being Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, last but not least, Ritek~ :)

there is a very strong possibility that the TDK you borrowed from a friend is made by CMC MAG, which is THE worst manufacturer out there for poor media~ most likely your Dynex is too~ i replied to a Dynex issue yesterday, but mysteriously, my post and research has disappeared...so, i dunno what else to tell ya~ :) try a GOOD brand of media, that might be the simplest solution that is often overlooked when problems arise :P

Recommended Media:

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

I'll go out and get some verbatim, and hopefully that will solve the issue. Oh, btw, I just remembered, he didn't let me borrow tdks, they're Philips. I thought that they'd be fine with me,becayse they are read fine by my friends' computer, thats why it doesn't make sense to me. Thanks though.

philips can be excellent media, depending on the id code of them,
i wouldnt say rushing out to buy more media types is the answer just yet,its not always the answer, especially if its wasted :(
do these disks hang up on any other pc?

is the firmware up to date on the burner?

I would think that the firmware is fine. The burner is only maybe about a month old. I don't think its necessarily the burner though, the philips dvdrs that were burned on my friends burner work fine on his computer, but on my computer, and my laptop, it stops responding. I just don't get it.
