SONY DVD+RW Version 1.2

I just bought a 5-pack of Sony DVD+RW. It says version 1.2 on the disc, so I guess that's the model of the disc or something. Anyway, I bought the +RWs instead of -RWs (it normally wouldn't make a difference to me) because I noticed that the +RWs were made in Japan (I assumed this was better, from reading through some threads here). The media code on it is: SONY S11.

Just wondering if these are good or not. I'm sick of crap media, so this is my first attempt at moving towards a good-media direction.

I've also bought a 50-pack of sony DVD-R, which say that they're made in Taiwan, but i haven't opened the spindle yet, because I'd like to ask you guys if these are probably good or not, and if not, I'll return them before opening them. Thanks.

 I have never encountered "junk" Sony media ... That's not to say it doesn't exist, it's just very rare ... Keep your discs and burn baby, burn!

You can really never assume that made in japan is better than made in taiwan or wherever. Some very high quality discs are manufactured in taiwan. We were discussing this the other day and can't seem to figure out who came up with this method of deciding whether or not to buy a disc. Best bet is to just stick with good quality manufacturers.

I agree with that, but it's hard to find the real manufacturer when getting sony discs because they hack the media code into having their own code in there, so it's difficult to figure out which manufacturer they are coming from. Does anyone know how to figure this out?
