I'm having issues playing backed up movies (on DVD-Rs) on a Toshiba M200 Portege laptop with an external DVD/CD burner (USB). The movies play fine on every other player, laptop, and desktop we've tried them on. Just not on my buddy's m200. They get 10 mins into the movie and freeze up his whole system. We've tried both WinDVD (won't even recognize the discs...) and PowerDVD (plays 10 mins and freezes up...). I was thinking it was a bad CD-ROM, but normal movies seem to work fine. Any ideas out there...

what type of media (brand) are you using? there is a good possibility that your friend's laptop burner/drive is picky towards some types of media~ need more info~ :) while YOURs (drives/home dvd players/etc) are less finicky~

Recommended Media:

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups
