I am trying to back up one of my new dvd's

and get this message

DVD Shrink encoutered an error & can not continue. Failed to read file. Data error (cyclic redundancy check)

If you are getting a CRC error you encountered a movie Shrink cannot handle download DVDDecrypter and use that to rip the movie to your hardrive, program is available at

http://www.filepedia.com

look under rippers. Then follow the guide zippyd gave you. Also ensure that your disk is not scratched, dirty, or smudged i.e. clean it really good.

Brand new DVD disc checked for dust, and have used DVD Decrypter still no go.

Well if decrypter didn't work then maybe you should download and install the latest version of AnyDVD. It has a trial period, but with Decrypter no longer supported, it's worth the $40 bucks. It runs in the background and removes copy protection and region settings automatically.
If that still doesn't work then you might just have a poorly pressed disc and should look into obtaining another copy.
