ian2k5, I have the same problem as you where it freezes on the 1st screen. If you wait long enough it will load up eventually, choppy at first, but once you finally get to the game it runs fine. I am trying to rebuild it right now to see that improves the load time. Also, I'm not using the best quality media right now which may be part of the problem.

I used Decrypter at 1x, Maxell discs, with swap magic 3.0 without rebuilds or patches and it seems to work fine

For those of you hanging on the 1st screen, try loading it with SM and then using DVDLoader v7

Copied mine strait up, nothing special, with DVD Decrypter
Works perfect with Swap Magic 3.3
If you buy a quality burner and quality media you won't run into many problems.

I was having the same problem....the game would get stuck on the opening screen. I changed the burning speed to 1x (using DVD Decrypter)and it's working perfectly. I'm using TDK discs and Swap Magic 3.6.

Mine works flawless. I used Decrypter to read disc/write disc strait up with no rebuilding. Using a PS2 with a fliptop and SM 3.6 disc to play it. This is a easy game to do with only DECRYPTER.
Also I just did the same with the following games yesterday no probles 1:1 using Decrypter only to read disc then write ISO to DVD-R. No patches/rebuilding needed and work perfect with Swap 3.6 I used Verbatim DVD-R at 2x for these. (I'm still waiting for my order of Taiyo Yuden DVD-R to get here I purchased)

Are your successful backups copied from original game disc or downloaded from internet?

either way you will end up with the same file after extracting the Rar files that you downloaded.

gt4 is a dual layered disc so your dvd drive might not be able to recognize one oe both layers so it just defaults to not recognizing it at all......destroy all humans on the other hand is your run of the mill dvd.......just copy and start destroying
