I had issues burning both Initially. For the Grudge, I could burn either the full movie (uncompressed to Dual Layer), or I could burn only the movie part using CloneDVD and AnyDVD. After I had ripped an ISO to my HDD that is. The extras on the disc (The Grudge) gave both DVD Shrink and CloneDVD all kinds of issues. At least for me. The Forgotten gave me similar issues at first but after I updated AnyDVD the problem went away.

Rip the dvds with DVD Decrypter first then compress with Shrink. Grudge and The Forgotten have bad sectors somewhere in the extras so after you rip you may want to re-author in Shrink, main movie only

You don't NEED AnyDVD, you could just rip with DVD Decrypter

From what I know that is not true. I believe that those movies and some newer ones like are we there yet and hitch are made by sony which as installed a new encrytion called arcoss. It causes your normal burning software to freeze up. The new version of AnyDVD will take care of this problem. And all this mumbo jumbo about DVD Shrink and decrypter, (yes I understand those are free software, but to technical for average Joe,) u don't need. If u have burning software like Dvdxcopy platinum use this after AnyDVD reads the disk and it will burn without any problems.

What I forgot to say was that I do use decrypter and I love it. It is one of the best free programs I have. I know that one click programs cost money but if u want ease of use thats the way to go. Right now I think that 1 click dvd copy is the best out there, but I've never had any problems using platinum even though I can't update anymore.

Thanks my friend, I will check it out. By the way, do you recommend using DVD Shrink over Decrypter, all the time? Which do you prefer?

Listen to me this will work for any disk with bad sectors (hitch etc). Rip with DVD Decrypter use the iso read mode then load shrink using the iso file mode (its under file in the menu) shrink will read the file just like it does with a DVD then you can do anything you want with it. It works everytime. You dont need AnyDVD or DVD43 bad sectors are not encryption just plain CRC errors which stops most copiers.

@korso55,
The Grudge, The Forgotten and In The Bedroom are nothing special. DVD43 (yes...it's free, new version 3.5.3.113) should be able to bypass the protection code easily. Matter of fact, I've used DVD43 for The Grudge, Resident Evil 2, Forgotten, The Incredibles, Spanglish, Hitch and Coach Carter - and was able to back up easily. However, if for any unknown reasons and DVD43 doesn't work for you, then I suggest you to use DVD Decrypter and Shrink - these 2 combo are known to be the best ripper and I can assure you that it will rip and back up nearly 99.99% of the movies now-a-days, plus they're free.

@korso55,
I strongly deem that "megabyte2" and I are doing the same thing when using DVD Decrypter to "decrypt" movie into hard drive first. Then once it's done, open up DVD Shrink and encode it, wait until it's done, then it should automatically burn with DVD Decrypter.
** Use DVD Decrypter to (MODE, ISO, READ R, then Decrypt) it into Hard Drive.
** Open up DVD Shrink, File, Open Disc Image (runs about 30secs - 1min)
** hit "BACK UP" and DVD Shrink should automatically starts to encode
** once it's done, it should automatically back up with DVD Decrypter
(Note: if you want it to back up using DVD Decrypter, then on DVD Shrink - you must set "BACKUP DVD" on "Target Device" to DVD Decrypter (ISO Image File and burn with DVD Decrypter). I've had 100% successful using this method rather than to back up with Nero.
However, DVD43 is another great and free tool to have in hand, if you know how to use it. In my opinion and with the experienced I've acquired, DVD43 is as great as AnyDVD and DVDIdle Pro. The only thing is that DVD43 does not updated as much as AnyDVD and DVDIdle Pro (both AnyDVD and DVDIdle Pro is "not" free).

korso55 DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink will work fine with most movies BUT i you want to use a program THATS really simple try Intervideo DVDCopy3 while running AnyDVD in the background its a great combo a very high quality. both are a free trial , try before you buy or you can try clonedvd2 with AnyDVD and its a package deal if you buy it. give it a shot.

No you dont, you can make a copy of a copy with your Nero disc copier or just use DVD Decrypter to read and then to burn it

Can i just use DVD decryptor to copy and burn these movies? or does it have to always be transferred to DVD Shrink?

@korso55,
No, you don't need/have to use the same process after you'd already backed up a copy from the original. By meaning, you can just copy your backed up copied (dvd-r or dvd+r) using DVD Decrypter to:
MODE, ISO, READ R, wait til it's done.
Then use DVD Decrypter again to: MODE, ISO, WRITE.
Sit back, relax and it should be done in 7 - 8 minutes depending on your computer specs.
You can also back up your already backed up copied using NERO to burn on the fly. If you have NERO, just click on the "DVD Tab", "Copy DVD", select your "destination" and "target" (if you have a dvd rom and dvd burner), otherwise, you'll have to use "Nero Recode 2" or "Nero Burning Rom", to "Import DVD or Load your disc image", then burn it to your new copy(new dvd-r/+r blank).

Most of the movies korso you have mentioned I have not tried. So I cannot say what is the solution for those movies. Alcohol is right his solution sounds exactly like mine. I have two computers one has DVD43 on it the other doesnt. I dont see any benefit to running DVD43 as they dont solve any problems with bad sectors. They do seem to help with encryptions. Since DVD43 doesnt hurt anything its a good idea to run it. Basically the way I solve the protection issues is to try anyone of 7 different programs and see which one does the best job. To me its just a puzzle to solve.

Also, once you run the movie through Shrink and burn it, you will have a already shrunk version on your hard drive ready to burn again with whatever burner you like to use.
