I am having this problem which I saw in 2 other threads but nobody has been able to answer:

I backed up my game using DVD Decrypter (read then write ISO). I use a no solder mod and swap magic. I put in swap magic push load, then switch the disk. The DVD boots but then the menu screen where you select the memory card or the DVD disc comes up. The playstation says its a ps2 disc in the machine but everytime I select the disc and after a short pause it always comes back to the same screen, memory card or disc option.

That is very odd? Never heard that one. If i had to guess i would say that the chip is causing it.
Just swap magic alone would not. I have used that many times.
What kind of chip did you get?
Usually if it were a bad burn you would get the "not a valid PS2 disc" message, or a red screen, or a black screen.

The same happens with me and I suspect it's a laser issue. I dont use a modchip, just swapmagic + slide tool.

its exactly a laser problem. your ps2 is dying :(

its happened to me and its just the system. no fix has been found from my searches. gotta bite the bullet and buy a new system. these new systems are so fragile it pisses me off. i still have my old nes system thats god only knows how old and it runs fine. but god forbid a bit of dirt gets in your laser now :(

depends.
If it plays all your originals fine then i would say it is not the laser.
And before you trash your system, you may be able to fix it.
Try cleaning the laser, Adjusting the laser, or adjusting the laser voltage.
And for $40-$50 you could just get an online mod shop to install a new laser rather than spending $150 on a new system.
see the PS2 repair guide for the adjustments mentioned.
