Alright, i know my cpu can handle Rome and Sim2 b/c i've done it b4. I lately my hard drive got wiped, and now the games won't run. I've installed each quite a few times now. These are not pirated versions. Store-bought. I've had this problem before, but i forgot how i fixed it, i have Alcohol 120 and i don't think it's blacklisting Rome, possibly Sims2. The problem is that both games, upon command to launch, get stuck in the "splash screen" that shows the logo of the game and the such... i really need help with this, it's driving me up the wall... i've been searching online 4 help 4ever... PLEASE HELP ME! :(

Did you update to the latest version of DirectX and video card drivers after you hard drive got wiped?
Also, no posting email addies - it's against forum rules ;)

Due to the way nVidia's site is set up it's impossible to direct link to the driver download itself. nVidia's ForceWare driver package is made for any GeForce card so all you need is the ForceWare package for whatever operating system you're running.
Are you completely uninstalling the video drivers before reinstalling?

Im sure you have done this from nvidia's website to get thet latest driver but select Graphics driver/GeForce and TNT2/Windows XP/2000
Also when you install the newest driver follow these directions
Driver Installation Hints
* "Download Accelerator" utilities should be disabled when downloading any drivers.
* Do not run virus protection software in the background while installing the drivers. This prevents the driver from configuring itself properly.
* Before installing new drivers make sure you uninstall all NVIDIA display drivers from the Windows Control Panel. Browse to the Start Menu > Windows Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and search for "NVIDIA Windows Display Drivers" or "NVIDIA Display Drivers" and select remove.

Ok, i'm going to download the new graphics driver, cuz now WarCraft III isn't workin either... meanwhile, in the Add/Remove Programs, there is no option for removing an NVidia Display Driver, there is the Stereo Driver, and "NVidia Drivers!" Could they be anymore vague :( ps- I'm running 2000. I'll get back to you in a bit to see if it works... PRAY FOR ME! O! by the way, do i have to uninstall those drivers, cuz i don't see them n e where... thanx 4 all ur help, hope this works :D

Ok B!tches i found it, i finally found it..... this is what u do. if you are using GeForce like me, and something isn't working for you, this is what u have to do. Right Click My Computer, Manage, Device Manager, IDE ATA/ATAPI, Secondary, Advanced Tab, and switch from PIO to DMA. I uninstalled the Nvidia IDE driver b4 i did this, i don't know if it will help, i think it will. n e ways, i'm finally playing sims 2 and rome again. ps- remember to stay current with drivers, international and us versions are not very friendly... later and peace!
