alright, so i geave my ps2 to this shop and there currently installing the Apple VII mod chip for my slim ps2. anyone heard of this chip and know if its a good one?

he was also telling me what dvdr's i should be using. i currently have sony's, but he says those arent good for the chip im getting cause there too "good" and that means that it will cause the lens to "work" faster. so he recommended some cheaper branded dvdr's.

now im so lost cuz the ppl here suggest good media, but he suggests lower class media. also, ths guys been in business for about 15 years and im assuming he knows his stuff pretty well. so im not sure if hes wrong or not.

soo what do you guys say to all of this?

never heard of that chip myself. but i know it is not on my list of choices.
DMS4 pro, Lite, or even EZI no solder chip
Or Matrix Infinity are the best choices.
I have NEVER heard anyone suggest cheap media?
I have heard people say they worked for them but 95% of the people here will tell you that it is not a good idea and that is what will cause your laser to work harder and burn out sooner.
Also having a laser fix installed with the chip would have helped.

Shouldn't have you checked around, looking for a modchip that you thought was good, or looked for reccomendations rather than just getting any old chip?

Well, judging by the media thing, I'd say the guy could be ripping you off. Makes no sense.

hope everything turns out ok, I did a bit of searching on the new and can not even find that chip. Found an Apple Minipro chip which sounded ok, although they say it is AKA Magic 4 chip. Which i have heard Magic chips are junk.
But hey, it may work out just fine.
But you really should have done your research first. but at least your not one of the other people on here with their "i got a mod chip installed but i don't know what kind it is"

well heres the chip i got:

http://www.zoneaccro.com/en/index.asp?Language=A
(click playstation 2 on the left, and scroll down to APPLE VII MOD CHIP)
i just got my slim ps2 back form the installation, i didnt hook it up yet to try it out. SORRY GUYS, my misunderstanding...he said to use good quality media...my bad, my bad :$

he was also explaining somethign about how to turn on and off the mod chip...somethign about holding the power button down for 2 secs or somethign..i dindt fully understand that. he said i only ahve to turn it off when playing ps1 games or watching dvd movies...anyway thats what i understood..am i getting it right?

also, do those of you who have a chip watch dvds on ur ps2 often? cuz the guy said i should try not to cuz it could burn the lens out faster. god, i dont want a ps2 to JUST play games >:(

This guy has no idea what the heck he is talking about. I watch movie on mine all the time. And you do not have to turn off (disable) the chip to watch movies, a good chip you only need to disable when playing games online because some site detect cheat devices like chips and will not let you play online if you have one. So you have to Disable it and use swap magic, you also have to patch the game to play a backup online.
But the chip sounds like it will do everything you need.
But you should have gotten a laser fix installed while you were at it just to be safe, then you would not have to worry at all about your laser burning out.

i see, thanks...ur a great help...

maybe u can help me out on this...

during this time ive been trying to burn my first game to use on my newly modded ps2. im trying to backup Tekken 5 using dvd decrypter. (i wanted to use the method of "mode > iso > read" and then "mode > iso > write") but i already encountered a problem.

heres what i did:
i put in tekken 5 in my pc, clicked mode > iso > read, then i clicked "decrypt" to start the process of copying the image file to my hd. anyway about 94% through i get this message:

http://img297.echo.cx/img297/7969/error1fi.jpg

what did i already do wrong?...i clicked all retry and ignore, but the percentage still stays at 94% and then the same error window comes up again. any luck in knowing what that means?

It means the disc cannot be reasd at that point. You will probably need to find another disc to copy. The one you're using is probably too scratched. Try cleaning it with a soft lint free cloth to see if that helps. It could also very well mean it's just dirty and needs some attention. Most of the time I get that error, it's because my disc is dirty so try cleaning it next time before trying to read it again.

he's is correct, the only time i see that error is when there is an area of the disc that the burner is having a problem reading. Try cleanig it as mentioned and see if it will work. If not try a differnt disc for your first try, you can always rent Tekken 5.
