I've been borrowing my brothers external DVD burner every so often to back up some dvds. It has worked fine in the past until I formatted my comp about a month ago. this is the first time I borrowed the burner from him since the re-format and NOW "NERO" wont let me burn... I saved my log from my Failed Nero Burn... so here we go!

Since I'm still farley new at this... I really have no idea on going about reading this, EXCEPT..... where it says, #32 Phase 38 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1853

I'm guessing that has something to do with it... if you have any ideas, please let me know. Thanks in Advanced.

Power calibration error
<9>I have a Power calibration error?
Options you can try with "power calibration errors"
o Try another brand of DVD-/+R or DVD-/+RW media. This is the most common cause of OPC errors.
o "Slow down your burning speed".
o Update the firmware of your recorder. Check the manufacturer's website for the latest version.
o Check your power connectors, loose connections do occur. Don't share power with other devices. It needs its own power connector. If the errors occurs with an external recorder, Check the USB cable and connections.
o Try different configurations, such as taking the DVD-ROM to the primary IDE bus as slave and have only the recorder connected to the secondary IDE bus as master.
o Clean or have your DVD burner serviced. There are cleaning kits available. Sometimes just a gentle appplication of canned air can remove dust blocking the laser.
o Replace the DVD burner.
lets hope we don't need to do the last one :-)

Your easiest fix would be changing your media. What brand are you using?

No I meant what brand of blank dvd's are you using.
Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Fuji, are the prefered brand of disc's on this forum.

Usually the brand of disc you use shows up in the logfile, but I don't see yours.
Im guessing your using something cheap?

Nero is your burning program btw,and its a very good program. IMHO

Go into the Nero Info Tool and make sure your firmware is up to date. Should read 1.0C.

- you're also burning to the very outer edge of the disc. If you use DVD Shrink, in preferences set target size to 4300MB, thus avoiding the outer edge of any future discs

Already got the kings of Nero logs involved but something else to check. Download this free proggy http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/ and report back the media manufacturer and ID. TDK has been known to buy from dreaded CMC MAG for their +r media.

Also your firmware is old. There has been 5 updates since 1.06 (thats what you have). Most current is 1.0C. Look here. http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1596
