Ok first off let me say ScubaPete guys guide to backing up a dvd totally worked! I couldn't even think I could do it but I did thanks man!

Ok I have backed up about 3 dvds since last night, I wanted to backup the notebook and I used a dvd rw, well it gets to about 80% and pops up with an error saying something like cannot read E:/ drive. Anyone know why this is? I get this error in dvddecrypter when the program is starting to copy the dvd to my hd. I've tried to 5 times today and still the same thing over and over. Could it be that the dvd just can't be copied?
Thanks Lil

Hi Lily_Ann, welcome to aD,

It sounds like you're getting a read error. Let's try the following:

1. Clean the discs thoroughly with a professional disc cleaner OR some alcohol and a clean soft cloth.

2. Since you're using DVDD to rip it, go to: Tools ~ Settings ~ I/O tab and at the lower right-hand side of the window, tick "Ignore read errors". Then try again.

There's no reason why DVD Decrypter shouldn't handle it without a problem.

If you cannot get a clean rip that way, it may well be the disc, perhaps a factory defect. Try to exchange it for another disc OR failing to do that, go for a rental DVD.

I hope that has been of some help,

Pete
