I was hoping someone out there is knowledgable between DVD+R and DVD-R. I'm about to buy a 100pack and not sure which one I should get and what brand. Any information will greatly be appreciated. -Jen

-R are more compatable with older dvd players (stand alones )

not many older dvd players will play +R.

Unless you have a newer dvd player that says it will play both +R/-R.

Then you can get either.

make sure yuo buy decent media. I personally would recommand Verbatim datalifeplus, as they're top quality media, cost no more than crappy or substandard media, and they should work in virtually any dvd burner.

Personally, i've been using Riteks top Traxdatas from official dealers for 3 years i guess, and never really had any issues. I understand that TY discs may be of a higher quality, but at what cost?

Traxdata 100 8x Full Face printables: £26
Taiyo Yuden 100 8x Full Face Printables: £46

Think ill stick with the Traxdata...

It all depends on your particular set up and compatability with your set-top dvd player. All statements above are correct, dvd-r's are more compatable w/ older set-top players, newer players will usually play both and quality of the media will affect compability. Dvd-rom is most compatable followed by dvd-r then dvd+r. I prefer verbatum datalifeplus dvd+r's (mcc 003)(some of the best media made) booktyped dvd-rom. Here is a good read about technical differences between dvd+r and dvd-r. http://www.cdfreaks.com/article/113 Here's a good read about booktyping/bitsetting dvd+r to dvd-rom. http://www.cdfreaks.com/article/150

I agree Mort81; Older players usually won't play +R, and everybody above is correct. I personally like to burn +R, because it seems more stable at higher burning speeds, but maybe that's just me. I have Sony stand alone players, the ones that are specifically listed to play + or -, and they seem to like every disc I feed them.

Compatibility issues with DVD+R are fairly minor anyway. We all know that the Booktype on a DVD+R can be written (not re-written since it comes blank) to read DVD-ROM, and i suppose, any other form available. This means that older players can read DVD+R discs in this way.

Personally though, i always use Traxdata official 8x DVD-R with the full face printable. Id buy TY discs if i was loaded, but unless you are in the professional industry or are making the discs for professional and/or high usage, then there is no real advantage to them over the Ritek dyes...

Personally, I prefer + to -. I don't think compatibility is an issue. I burned a +r without booktype set to -rom and it played fine on my old rca player which rejects -r. I only have problems with a newer Toshiba that plays nothing copied and my samsung dvd-611, which claims compatibility with both.

I think +r media tends to have less errors as well which will reduce/eliminate annoyances like skipping and freezing. You should probably go for Verbatim as this is easier to find than the others.

k666,

I'm going to quit doing that. I like to hear/see you talk. Your speech's have a much smoother flow and poetic nature :-) where as I'm just blunt and to the point. Not much creativity in my writing skills.

i am not creative even in the very slightest~! i have basically eliminated the use of my left hemisphere in the brain as i am completely "right brained" (analytical, cut and dry, NO creativity whatsoever) :P

oh well, i guess i have to make up for my lack of creativity and ingenuity with my "dry jokes" (that im picking up from YOU btw, im slowly catching onto the dry humour). have a good one buddy mort81~

DVD+Rs for me all the way.... why? Because the performances is much better and of course it reads and writes better than the -Rs. It is obvious that I'll take any of the FUJI, SONY and MAXELL DVD+Rs over any -Rs or any other brands anyday and anytime. However, people are entitled to their own preferences and choices, so stick to what's best for you.

So far, I have only been using -R (TY 8X and Verbatim 8X). I have 125 blanks left of 175 total (50 TY and 75 Verbs, 50 great TY burns) that cost me a total of $60 bucks!!! I may try the + made by Sony, Fuji, or Maxell if I find it at a GREAT deal!!! Barring that, I don't see straying from the TY's and Verb's any time soon...
