Hi there, I'm pretty new to this and I've checked out several guides but still have a problem. I'm trying to convert a Xvid video to be able to burn to DVD-R. I've tried several encoders including TMPGEnc but I can only get video from them, not audio. In TMPGEnc it won't even let me select the video as the audio source. I used GSpot to see what codecs are being used and it says as follows:

Video --> Xvid MPEG-4
Audio --> Wave_Format_Mpeglayer3(Mp3) -- ffdShow audio decoder

I have installed ffdshow and I still can't get any encoders or burning programs to work (i.e. Nero, DVD Santa, Cucusoft, Main Concept etc.)

Anyone able to help me convert these or program suggestions? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

~Kevin~

Did you enable FFDShow to decode Xvid? Otherwise, simply install the Xvid codec, it's free.

AVI -> DVD read the threads which already exist [http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/202947 , http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/196299 ...], and the guides: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/ .

Personally, I hate doing AVI -> DVD (I prefer AVI --> (S)VCD) and I would'n be able to help you more..

TMPGEnc has some real problems with MP3 audio in some cases. Best thing to do is decompress the audio to PCM audio so that you can ypass that problem.

Here's you to do it.

1. Open the AVI file in VirtualDUB
2. Click Video --> Direct Stream Copy.
3. Click Audio --> Full Proxcessing Mode.
4. Click Audio --> Cmpression. Select No Compression (PCM) and click OK.
5. Click File --> Save as AVI.

The AVI file you save will be much larger than the original AVI file but with the decompressed audio at least you shouldnt get any trouble from TMPGEnc.

BTW, since you said it's XviD to DVD, here are some other guides at AfterDawn you might find useful...

DVD2SVCD is a frontend for many programs so it'll do it all in a few steps for you.

Quality varies, you can use 3 or 4 different encoders, including CCE SP, an expensive but excellent quality solution.
