I have been using ICopyDVD2 and DVD43 without any problems until just a few days ago when I tried to make backup copies of "Hitch" and also "House of Flying Daggers". Hitch gave me an I/O error when ICopyDVD2 got to 41% when reading the disk. the other movie also gave me an I/O error.

Is there something I am missing or doing wrong when it comes to using the combination of these two pieces of software? I have read some forums where it is said that the newer version of DVD43 can have problems. I can not recall if/when I upgraded to this newer version, but what I am running is the newer version.

I used to be able to just put in the original DVD in one drive, a blank in the DVD burner drive, wait until DVD43's smiley face went green, start ICopyDVD2 and just click on Copy when it went red. It was as simple as that. So what's the catch with these movies? Is there some new copy protection that this combination of software will not handle anymore, and if so is there is there a fix?

For help with Hitch see the 'offical' Hitch thread here;
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/200764

As far as HOFD, I/O errors are often caused by ditry/damaged/defective disks. Standalone playersare usually more tolerant and can play them, PC readers are less forgiving and often 'choke' on errors. Some programs DVD Decrypter can be configured to try multiple times often allowing the disk to be read. This program can be configured to irgnore errors also.

I was able to back up both of these (movie only) using DVD Decrypter to rip and DVD Shrink to compress.

Hitch is a Sony disc. Sony, desperate to stay afloat use a copy protection that hasn't been decrypted with their latest movies like Hitch. I am going to try to use DVD43 and DVD Decrypter together to see if that will defeat the encryption.

hey dludden, closed DVD43 free,decrypter will work better this way.

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

I had the exact same problem. If you use AnyDVD you will be able to finish what you are doing.

Use DVD Decrypter and rip in file mode, this has worked for me on both Hitch and HOFD. Some people have had luck using DVD43 along with Decrypter but I did not need to use this program.

@gohorns17

Just what kind of trouble are you having, these are not new movies so the programs you mentioned should not have any problem with protection.

on the Fugitive it gets to 99% analysed and I get the DVDshrink read error and then decryptor gives me an error too. The Negotiator gets to about 11% then the same read error.

More than likely your disk is scratched, dirty, smudged or has an imperfection in it. Try cleaning it, or take it back and get another original.

I think you should give AnyDVD a try. It runs in the background like DVD43. Have the lastest version of Nero. update it if possible. Use DVD Decrypter with DVD Shrink. Make sure if you use compression that it is between 64 - 70%. This is a sony production so therefore you need AnyDVD to get rid of the little running boy! Have both any dvd and DVD43 running in the background. You need them both. Make sure you use good media. You should have no problems anymore.

Advise against running both AnyDVD and DVD32 at the same time. They are both background 'driver' type software and may conflict with each other.
