When I put either one of these movies in either drive (DVD Rom or DVD-RW), it disables both drives. Neither drive will even begin to read a dvd or a cd. If you remove the movie, and reboot, the drives work again with both dvds and cds. But if you put either one of these movies in again, same thing! It disables both drives! As long as I don't insert one of these movies, everything is fine.

I've heard that the studios were gonna put out dvds that pc drives couldn't read, therefore, couldn't rip and burn. Are these two movies these type discs? Is this a new copy protection? Has anyone else run across this same problem? I've been backing up for over a year, without problems, so I'm not really a newbie. The one time I did have problems, AnyDVD fixed them.
Thanks for any info................

Did both the films with ddd and shrink no problems. you may have some sort of bad pressing from the factory, also may want to check for firmware updates for ur drives. Hope this helps.

As per Tmaxxfan above - no problems with these movies and no new protections - Assault on Precinct 13 done using Shrink only.

Possibly bad pressings, poor quality media or hardware/software problems.

i used just DVD Shrink to do Hostage ages ago, and today did Assault~13 with just Shrink also. There's no funny protections on either.

Since my discs of these movies wouldn't let me back them up, I got hold of two other discs, of the same movies. Same exact problem, with two totally different discs. My Rom drive doesn't see it, and neither does my RW drive.

I'm sure it's not the drives, because every other movie works fine in them. Just something about these two movies. I've tried Decrypter, Shrink and DVD Clone. None of them got a response from either drive. Forget backing them up for a second. I can't even watch either one of them on the computer.

No one has any ideas? Thx.................

can't be much to ripping these movies, for i did them with 1clickdvd and DVD43 free.

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

Try making sure AnyDVD or DVD43 are turned off!!!

Try updating the firmware to both drives...

well i just use either dvdshrink or dvddecrypt. untill hitch came along, i can rip it find, just the fucker wont shrink, when i try eaither crashs my system (3200+/1gbddr) or overload my memory, then i get memory errors which is fun. Then Hostage riped find, but then i got a IFO error, then when i tried to shrink that, there was no audio, so idont know, ive been ripping dvds over a year now , thease are the only problems ive ever had so far which was this week.

@TripKore - the 'Official' Hitch thread is here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/200764

I'm trying to stay away from that one as there's about 657 people in there constantly saying they can't back it up even though there's numerous proven workarounds in that very thread, read it thru and see if it helps

@TripKore
Do me and yourself a favor... See the link to my webpage in my sig? Go there and try using the very first guide it seems to work well for those problem movies. Also make sure you have the newest version of Decrypter. You will have the main movie only doing it that way but it works :-)

Cheers

bbmayo................
Thanks for the suggestion to turn off AnyDVD. That took care of the problem.
Once I disabled that, both movies burned perfectly. Just goes to show you, no matter how long you've been burning, you can still LEARN things from others, that help.

It's funny though............ I've been burning almost a year and a half. The only problem I ever had before (burning Spanglish), AnyDVD fixed. Now it turns out that AnyDVD was the culprit. It's a great little program, but has it's place.
Thanks again!

I am having the same problem with AnyDVD, whenever it is open all my drives dont read, as soon as I shut the program down they work perfectly. Any ideas why this happens? I only have the trial version so I am gonna just uninstall it and forget about it I Think.

You may be sorry, if you do that.
Like I said, that was the ONLY way I was able to burn Spanglish.
I'm sure there will be other movies that will require AnyDVD, to be able to burn them. When you need it.........it's great! When you don't need it, turn it off.
These were the only two movies that had a problem with AnyDVD, so far.

dfauteux,
Here is what I want you to try. D/L a free registry cleaner and clean your registry. Uninstall AnyDVD and then use the registry cleaner again. re-boot and re-install AnyDVD and run registry cleaner again. If all is well now try the movies. It sounds like you might be having registry conflicts. The trial version is the same as the regular version.

If it is not problems in your registry then I suggest you e-mail SlySoft w/ the problem to see what they suggest. You have a conflict somewhere as it works on alot of other peoples computers but not yours. You might try uninstalling the DVD drives in Device Manager and then re-booting and then re-trying but that is a shot in the dark

Well excuse me for trying to help you out.

If you didnt want any advise then why did you post a question? So you can be rude and obnoxious to those that do try to help..

Good luck with your Hitch

{{{{unsubscribed}}}} seeing how the original posters question was solved anyway and really had nothing to do with your question.. Try reading rule #8 again :-)
